Lots of casaulities and injured but no word how many yet.  Hopefully not many.  The track was brand new.  Apparently they believe there was on object on the tracks.  Maybe it fell there (like a boulder) or maybe its some sort of sabotage.



BTW back in April antifa poured concrete on a traintrack nearby in Olympia Washington to stop it form conveying fracking equipment

As things come out, only the "passenger service" (high speed Seattle to Portland) was new .. this was the inaugural run for the service. Track has been used for freight for some time I believe.

There is a noticeable curve just before the bridge that most of it  it fell off of. Also reports of "something on the tracks" by someone



Nearby mayor of Lakewood, a stop just before the accident,  had expressed great concerns about the dangers of this run  on Seattle Komo TV station just 2 weeks ago to the day



Washington is a mess / whacos in control of the entire coastal area   ... everything is done for political / PC reasons to a GREAT extent - not sure why this was needed at all as alternate routing also used takes  only 5 - 10 minutes longer ... not much saving of time, yet billions spent on it



Washington State promised "'shorter trip times and more reliable schedules' on new route"  .. and this happened within very few miles  of starting it's first run



I 5 is major highway, runs Canada to Mexico, and south traffic is blocked south of Tacoma for who knows how long

"Positive Train Control," which is sort of the train version of the collision/accident avoidance systems that new automobiles have, wasn't yet active on that stretch of track (think was to be implemented early next year on that track?), so looks like there would be no automatic over-ride, should the engine be screaming full steam ahead, which it looks like it was, when it shouldn't have been.



Operator error, more than likely.  Probably won't ever work in that industry again, and that could be the least of his problems...

The official NTSB investigation will take months, if not longer, to be completed.  They won't release much until then.



However, new track, new run, 30 minutes behind schedule...  It's easy to see how easily operator error could cause this, especially when the Train Control System was not yet operative...
