He's so beautiful.

One-year-old Lucas Warren's contagious smile won over executives at Gerber baby food who have made him their "spokesbaby" this year.

Lucas is Gerber's first spokesbaby with Down syndrome in the company's 91-year history.

His photo was chosen out of more than 140,000 submissions. He will receive $50,000 US, and the Dalton, Ga., boy's image will be featured in the company's social media posts.

Lucas' mom, Cortney Warren, said she hopes this will help increase the acceptance of special needs kids.

Not to be insensitive but putting the image of a birth defect on jars of baby food might not be the best marketing choice.

He's a beautiful boy, that's all that matters.

I'm sure he is. Just saying they didn't think that one through. Hope they don't plan to use that marketing in places like Iceland.

I noticed right away the baby had downs.

Advertising and marketing is part of my specialty. I agree, while he looks cute, it sends a message that their food causes "problems" to the illiterate. I can see an uneducated person now, "I aint feedin' ma baby that crap, jus look at da baby on the jar!".
I've come here to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Babies are born with downs syndrome, they don't acquire it through what they eat.

You know that, and I know that, but to others that are clueless and pick up a jar, that is not what they will think. They think "this food gonna make my baby look like a retard". Hate to say it, but thats how some think.

If even a small percent of the population thought that Gerber would  not have chosen that beautiful child..

Big companies do test marketing.

Well that female Dorito chip was a flop

They dont always do test marketing, trust me.

And when I have to do things, I have to look at every angle, and if anything negative were to crop up, the idea was nixed. For Gerber's sake, I hope they promote Downs awareness while doing this, and continue to do so.

It's not quite the same....Lucas Warren,  the lovely baby chosen won a contest from over 140, 000 photos of  babies  submitted by parents.

This year's winning baby will be in Gerber's social media campaigns. This is an audience that likes inclusivity. Smart move.
