That would be so much fun, if one knows to sail a boat.

I am.

The ship was built in 1864 and is largely original.

It is unique, as it is the last surviving original clipper ship.

The more famous "Cutty Sark" is mostly a rebuild after it caught fire during preservation work 15 or so years ago. The Cutty Sark was solely a cargo ship, whilst the "City Of Adelaide" was purely a passenger ship (until converted when its passenger carrying duties were done).

Its a wooden hull built over an iron frame. Only two other ships of that configuration exists; the Cutty Sark and the Brittania (which is an iron hull).

When you walk through the ship, you are walking on the same boards and in the same hull as passengers did 155 years ago.

I thought you meant you had a model of the ship you were building.

I'm currently working on THIS project.

A clipper ship built in 1864 to convey colonists from London to Adelaide in what was considered a luxury vessel.

I love this ship.

Not sure how to ask this without sounding like a smart ass, but how exactly are you working on it?  You should understand that "I'm building a model of it" is a perfectly legit answer in my book.

I'd say it was safer but then I remember earthquakes, sink holes, and floods....

The ship is now located in Port Adelaide.

It was derelict for many years after sinking in its berth in 1991.

However, because of it's incredibly robust design and construction it suffered no structural damage.

After much tribulation and a major engineering triumph, it was transported to Adelaide in 2014 where it is undergoing preservation work and some repairs to perished decking. The former first class cabin area is being converted to a function room, but the remainder of the ship will be preserved "as is" so that visitors can walk through a genuine 155 year old passenger ship, not a mock up.

It is being preserved by a work force of volunteers, with a variety of roles. Some are tour guides and manage the information centre, some are tradesmen and women doing the carpentry, some are engineers and marine engineers managing repairs to the superstructure. Some are project managers that are developing long term business plans, funding and public relations. But everyone will end up doing a bit of everything.

My current role is to develop sponsorship relationships and funding. I also do tours and visitor centre work.

I haven't been called on to help with the grunt work, because at the moment most of the physical labour is replacing decayed flooring.
