I have just discovered I can post links from my fb page and the image shows up.

This is great because now I can show off some of my shots.

I'll start by posting a threatened bird called, Red Tailed Black Cockatoo... This is a female.

I hope other people contribute if you have bird shots.... feel free.

This is very exciting stuff for people trying to save this species...

The only cockatoos I've seen in pet stores here are the white variety with a yellow crest on their heads.

Sulphur Crested...

You have no idea the array we have. Sadly due to mowing down the bush, numbers are dwindling. Cats get the blame but really, the biggest destroyer of OZ is people.

Facebook have a couple of good groups Bird Photography Australia and Crap Bird Potography (that's a fantastic group)

Now that I know posting a link here will show the picture, it's good. I can't do it at 3rd Rail.

Pink and Grey Galahs... in the palm next door...  These birds are everywhere where I live.

I would expect that as the human population rises, some species of birds and animals will decline.

If they keep wrecking natural habitats and polluting the planet with plastic garbage, that is exactly what will happen.

It's already happening.

What do you mean?

There are a lot of hungry mouths being added to the world's population every year..

They all want the same living standards middle class families in developed countries enjoy..

They may love wildlife, but their own well being and that of their families comes first..

I don't blame anyone for that.

When you look after the land and animals, humans thrive but if you destroy trees the earths lungs that affects everything when you choke the ocean with plastic and murder all the sea creatures, you kill us, because the ocean feeds the planet..

Globally 85% of the earths forests have been destroyed... the situation has gone way past critical... It is another subject. I know The Pope is hysterical about it, Prince Charles too, and any other environment watcher.

Just about every young person in India are HYSTERICALLY worried about the lack of forests... If we don't change our behaviour very, very quickly, no ones family will survive anything.

Canada chops down a lot of trees for resource industries. But, we replant them. Most countries don't bother, which is why we have climate change. Forests, especially tropical rain forests absorb C02.

It's so critical now, it is probably passed too late.

God made volcanos for a reason,... they were to keep the trees healthy... now they're gone, there isn't much left to soak up volcano CO2 emissions.

When I show people google earth maps, they can see for themselves how critical it is.

Australian farmers won't be fucking happy until they've ripped out every mature tree from the coast to the desert. .... then they cry about droughts and floods.

Anyway... it's in God's hands... if he wants his planet fucked up, so be it. I have to switch off mentally worrying about it. I know I replanted trees 35 years ago. I did my bit for the environment.

There's nothing wrong with harvesting trees, but I don't understand why Australia doesn't replant like we do?

I know Brazil and South East Asia are destroying rain forests for farming, but that isn't the case in Australia.

Bricktop

I think Caskur is misrepresenting reality.

Agriculturalists require permission to clear land. Trees are heavily protected, even in domestic gardens. All commercially harvested timber must be renewable.

However, twas not always thus, and it is true that vast tracts of bushland were brutally raped by farmers in the early 20th century, never to recover.
