A yellow-billed Spoonbill. So named for obvious reasons...

We have crane type birds like that too......no bill like that though.

It's cute.

Cute, but devastating on the wine industry. They'll peck a grape and another and another and another... Botrytise the whole vine. Mind you, one could make a decent sweet wine out of it.

Cute little dinosaurs though.

Oh my, that's a problem for farmers.

More of an inconvenience really. They have to use bird netting or have special audio speakers that will mimic birds of prey in the field. The latter is more ecologically sound, as the netting does cause birds to become traps and injure themselves.

Is the kookaburra a large bird?

The kookaburra is a member of the kingfisher species, and is the largest of that type.



It also doesn't hunt for fish. It generally eats small animals or large insects.



It is about the size of a crow or magpie. It is quite gregarious, and will aclimatise to human presence quite well. They rarely scatter if larger animals or humans are nearby. They just sit in the tree and watch. Whilst not tame, they will come quite close to humans if there's food in the deal. They will even steal food from a table if humans are not too close.
