QuoteAt least Australian states can't impose and raise taxes like Canadian provinces can.

Oh, but they can.

Indirectly.

They charge "stamp duty", "service fees", "licence fees", "payroll tax" and hundreds of other imposts, merely to pay for a government we don't need.

I am not sure what that is..

Provinces have income tax, sales tax and corporate tax just like the federal government.

Quote from: "Bricktop"Very much so. Despite the utter tyranny, racism, corruption (17 people arrested for electoral fraud)  and socialism displayed by its government, Victorians are still likely to vote them back in at the next election.

However, Freud is Victorian, and seems unnaturally silent on the issue.

It sounds exactly like Victoria, BC.

In the old days, collecting taxes on transactions such as the sale of properties was somewhat problematic.

So, when documents certifying the sale of property were lodged with the Land Titles Office (or similar in various legislations), the had to pay the duty by purchasing stamps equal to the value of the duty imposed, and adhere the stamps to the title application.

This then changed when payment could be made directly with the lodgement, so the payment was certified by a stamp on the deed papers.

Hence the anachronistic term "stamp duty", when "duty" applies equally as well.

Our State governments cannot collect income or sales tax.

It sounds like a tax municipalities would collect here through property taxes..

Maybe it's different.

Bricktop

No. Its a property tax. An insidious and immoral theft of our own money.

And in my city it keeps going up every year.

Bricktop

As it does here...as property values rise, so does the tax, because its based on the selling price of the property. How many properties are sold less than what they cost?

The Australian state of Victoria is governed by politicians that make Trudeau and Turnbull positively statesmanlike. If they were any further left they'd be putting dissidents in labour camps.

Recently Sky News, a cable channel, conducted an interview with a far right activist. Sky provides an edited news service to the rail network. This enraged the loopy lefties, who, in order to protect people from such profanity, immediately banned the cable channel from broadcasting on Victoria's railway stations, to "protect against racism and hatred".

Not only was this censorship, but the vacuous, ideologically motivated Ministerial moron that made this decision on the fly actually lied, by claiming the interview was shown on the rail network.

It never was.

Such is the intellectual vacuum of the left in Australia, who will do anything to remove opposing viewpoints from public display.

This kind of censorship has become the norm throughout the West.

Exactly right.  The left in every western nation is doubling and tripling and quadrupling down on doing everything they can to shut people up whose views they don't like.  the left is showing in plain sight their hunger for power knows no bounds, there is no freedom they won't sacrifice to gain control.  They will turn western society into a soviet or Nazi-like society of they are not stopped.

QuotePolice in Melbourne have been slammed for making no arrests after residents of the city's north-west suburbs were terrorised by gangs of African youths who bragged "police can't touch us" and branded frightened families "racist". Despite its sending dozens of armed officers in riot gear to Taylors Hill as more than 100 teenagers gathered "for war", and telling residents to "stay inside and lock their doors" as rival gangs ran amok, police claimed there had been "no threat to community safety".

According to The Age, there was a heavy police presence at the scene for several hours, including cavalry officers and a helicopter, with traffic diverted away from the area as gangs hurled rocks at authorities and law enforcement vehicles, smashing the window of a patrol car.

Local media heard police had said the youths had gathered "for war" as they told people to stay inside their homes, with one resident telling reporters: "They told me to stay inside, lock the doors and yeah, it's scary, I've got a nine-year-old and an 11-year-old and they're scared."

Another Taylors Hill local described youths threatening his family, asking "what are you looking at, you white trash" before warning him not to be shocked if they decided to "raid" his home, and he added that the group seemed completely unafraid of police in the area.

...

Federal Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who has previously highlighted problems with African gang violence in Melbourne, blasted Victoria's left-wing authorities for downplaying the issue.

Victoria isn't a Republic but it has its share of retarded progressivism. Australia itself is not a Republic. It's a constitutional monarchy. There have been pushes over the decades to move towards a Republic but we're a divided nation of pro suckle and anti suckle on the Queen's tit and our version of a Republic would end up being worse than the Chinese example so it's best that nothing happens until such time as a great pandemic wipes out the sardine tin living progressives in our capital cities or teaches them that nothing is ever truly free or should be.

Bricktop is a Federalist and believes that regional governance ie individual States and Territories should bow down to the mighty cock of authoritarianism, and that nobody except military or security services should have the means to defend themselves or put down aggressive action, including their own aggressive action which they refuse to rightfully acknowledge as authoritarian actions.

Bricktop has rocks in his head. On one hand he eschews socialism and mob rule but then on the other harangues the right of regional self determination, checks and balances, and the human right of self defence.

He's all over the place like a cop on LSD.

Indeed it does look that way.  and just like Europe in Aus (at least according to the following "unbiased" cnn article) its "racist" to talk about this reality--

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/08/07/australia/australia-racism-interview-intl/index.html">https://edition.cnn.com/2018/08/07/aust ... index.html">https://edition.cnn.com/2018/08/07/australia/australia-racism-interview-intl/index.html

QuoteAustralia is the most successful multiculturalism society in the world, it's one of our greatest achievements," Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told the national broadcaster in July. (probably because most immigrants are whites and Asians)

But following an uproar over a neo-Nazi being interviewed on national television and repeated comments by top politicians over "African gangs," questions are emerging over whether Australia is a more racist country than it would like to believe.

Certainly the political situation is better there than the US and Europe  But the same kind of people who have been tightening the screws here are trying to do it there as well.  Its a world wide western problem IMO.
