Carrisa macrocarpa (Natal Plum)... endemic to the region where I was born, Kwazulu-Natal.



As kids I used to remember picking these delectable plums on the way to and from school. People used to grow them as hedges for security purposes, as they have serious thorns on their branches and stems.

Yes they do Fash. They taste just like normal plums, but with a more fruitier and tangy flavour. When I was younger, I wanted to market them into Australia, but the red tape was too much. There is indeed an untapped market with this fruit. In the African tongue, it's called amatungulu.

Very nice. Here in Brazil we have the Japanese plum, apparently it adapted very well to our climate



They were everywhere here in my city, they're a bit sour but delicious.



The ones that become orange are sweeter, but the light yellow ones are very acidic.

We have a very similar fruit called Loquat(Eriobotrya japonica). It's very tasty and always abundant because many people aren't sure about their edibility.

I love it. I meal in a tree everywhere. Another fruit that many people don't sample is our LillyPilly...Syzygium and Acmena species.

Depending of the species...sweet to tarty. It really has a unique taste. It's not very "fruity" put it that way. Back in the day the ouma's make jam out of them. And the aborigines refer to them as good bush tucker.



When it's been raining, they are a lot juicier.

I eat them all the time, and on more than a few occasions people have looked at me strangely

or exclaimed to me that they didn't realise that they were edible.
