There's also been reporting in state media of the reported death toll in Italy surpassing that in China. This has been combined with some commentary from prominent media figures that has appeared distasteful, almost triumphalist.
Meanwhile, well away from senior leaders, there are some high-profile diplomatic figures using international-facing social media to spread theories that the US may have weaponised and dumped the virus in China. Or that Italy had cases that may have been Covid-19 earlier than China. China is sowing seeds of doubt and questioning assumed truths as it looks to repair its reputation.

Russia is lying too.

According to the count released by its health ministry, Russia currently has only 253 confirmed cases of the virus. That is vastly lower than in other major countries in Western Europe, where there are already thousands of cases.

What really makes Russia an outlier, however, is the number of tests it is carrying out compared to its number of positive cases. Russia has done 133,101 tests, putting it behind only China, Italy and South Korea.

But with just 306 cases of the virus, Russia’s ratio of positive cases to the number of tests is the second lowest in the world, at 0.21%. Only the tiny United Arab Emirates comes lower at 0.11%, based on figures from the Our World In Data project at Oxford University.

NYC now 'epicenter' of coronavirus crisis, mayor says; 258 dead in US
That number is puzzling, not least for a country of Russia’s vast size, with a population of 144 million and a long border with China. For example, the U.K. has done 64,600 tests and has over 3,000 cases. In Norway, 44,000 tests have turned up 1,700 cases.

“If they have done that amount of testing, it is remarkably low,” Paul Hunter, a professor of health protection at Britain’s University of East Anglia, told ABC News. “But clearly there are both suspicious and non-suspicious explanations for that. I would be very pushed to say that data is false based just on the numbers.

But in a country where the state has a long history of hiding bad news from its citizens and the outside world, the anomalous figures have triggered suspicions of a cover-up. No solid evidence has so far emerged to support that theory, but even officials have begun to sound the alarm that the official numbers cannot be trusted.

“The number of all the infected is without question higher, but by how much?" Alexey Kurinny, a Communist party lawmaker who sits on the parliament’s health committee, wrote this week. "2 times (minimal) or 10 times?"

Oh course they are lying. Theyve been lying.

And none of the numbers are gonna be accurate because literally every country screwed the pooch on testing. We wont even have accurate fatality numbers and now the accuracy of the tests are being questioned. People have gotten false negatives.

Even here in MI, you really have to "qualify" for testing. You gotta either be high risk or gravely ill.

One of my friends who is an MSN, shes an ER charge nurse, is saying the ICU is at capacity and half her ER is vented. And, the hospital knowingly let them get exposed for weeks and isnt providing them with proper PPE(N95s). They have N100s that that are not being allowed to use unless they are dealing with confirmed cases.

Which would be fine if this shit didnt have a 7 to 20 day incubation. So now nurses and techs are showing symptoms and they are not getting tested.

Same friend has a 4 year and 1 year old who are showing Covid symptoms and not only can she not get them tested, she cant bring them to the hospital because they are turning away non critical patients. My Squish was playing with them 3 weeks ago, so I'm really keeping an eye and being a hand washing nazi.

I think its logical to assume for every one confirmed case there are tnon confirmed.

It's a fucking mess.

Yup, China will do anything to punish and accuse their victims or anyone that doesn't agree with them. Honestly I lost patience with them long time ago. :sdfjh(2):

I think it came from people eating bats, my brother says when bats are under adrenaline they their body temperature spikes up and release tons of toxins into their body, not to mention the ones that lives in caves, I bet they're highly contagious due to the poop littered everywhere and there's never any wind or rain to clean it out, though I could be mistaken. ac_umm

Both the United States and Italy have 6,000+ more confirmed cases today. China went up by +1? The fuck? Something is not right here.

And that's Trump's fault too.

Trump is telling china to lie because he created corona virus in his kitchen. I have solid information that he was holding Chinese propaganda minsters hostage at Gun point until they conceded under duress to lie to us

It's all part of his evil plan

We'd better stop him before he blows up the moon next, or, Godforbid, our Sun.

Trump the Treacherous must be STOPPED!!!!!!!

My old lady is from the far North of China on the Russian border. She is half Mongolian, but Northern Han don't eat weird shit like Southern Chinese do. But, eating bats? The old lady has never heard of it even among Southern Chinese.

Disgusting.

The Chinese government aren't very good at protecting it's citizens from themselves. The Chinese government members eat food from Australia btw... They don't eat their own polluted products.

I feel very sorry for regular Chinese people... It must be hell living in an ill governed country with 1.2 or 1.3 million bodies on top of each other.

I'm so glad I live WA.... it's quite depressing seeing other countries go through hell.

That is most likely just fake internet memes..

The most common one was from Palau, but it went around social media as being from Wuhan..

That is distraction, this pandemic started in a lab.

Lol it wouldn't be surprising if bats are eaten, when traveling in China, one thing I always notice there's ever hardly any wildlife. Even the sparrows in Hong Kong while flying north decided to all of a sudden turn around when they're getting too close to the border of Shenzhen, lol.
