I dont know of it was a good buy or not.

Perhaps Vancouver Guy, Mel or somebody more tech savvy can advise?

It was an impulse buy

I got suckered in by the price.

Yeah its a bit pricey eh BT?

At least $100 per cartridge x 4

I hope the print yield is decent.

Sometimes laser printers can last for 2500 pages

In black and white, maybe...

I had one a few years ago, and ditched it after the toner ran out. Hard to find a replacement, and it was $100 a pop.

The print quality for photos was awful.

Do you print a lot? I use my ink printer like 5 times a year. A cheap $10 cartridge from eBay can last me at least two years.
Time is malleable

I dont really print a lot, VG.

Actually I already have an hp color laser.

It works well, the printer software was decent but it has its weaknesses as a printer.

HP are good business printers. Good clear text output, color text, good at printing line art and a few spot colors.

But really terrible at printing photos. I noticed this with even their most recent models too. Even their more expensive laser printers. HP has never fixed nor addressed this deficiency. Color matching is also very poor. If you have a complex Graphic the colors look nothing like the software image you see on your monitor screen.

Photo images were also poor output. Skin tones often turned out a dull greeny grey. Blotchy & pixelated.

The hp might be good to keep around for basic stuff. Its a good productive workhorse printer for basic leaflets and signs needed to hang for outdoor use. The pages printed from them resist rain and sunlight very well.

But where I think the Canon might come in handy is printing covers or pages with photographs especially with people, plants or animals in them. So maybe the Canon can print stuff like book or report covers.

If you're a photographer it may be a decent proofing system before its sent out to a lab for high quality prints. I will find out. I was thinking of getting into digital photography at some point.

Anyways i was after a printer which could output the bright color quality of an inkjet, yet still maintain  the steadfastness of a laser print & not require protective coatings like lamination.

I just wanted to see if it could do the job or at least of somewhat acceptable quality.

So figger for $200 ($150 US) caint lose. the lowest CDN price is lower than the current lowest price in the States:
