How much do they charge for plastic grocery bags?

We pay 5 cents per bag here in BC.  I generally have my own in my purse but sometimes I do buy one.  They should really eliminate them all together.  People will have  no choice but to bring their own bags.  If you dont have one, then the only option SHOULD BE to purchase a paper bag.



We need to change our ways of living.  No more plastic and unnecessary products to live by.  People think they are saving the planet buy not buying bottled water anymore but using those soda streams.  And they just throw away the co2 cartridges, which is even worse.

Paper bags are worse than plastic bags.

I havent looked into that.  I've seen much footage of 3rd world countries and the massive problem of plastic in their rivers and waters.



I myself like to recycle everything.  I blue bin plastic jugs and metal cans.  I dont buy bottled water, I have my own reusable bottles.



But I just wanted to point out, the world as a whole needs to change their ways and live better...a little everyday o change for the better over time.  Our politicans and world leaders are the main problem in trying to move forward with new ways of living.  Taxing everything doesnt help.

I use the plastic bags for when I scoop the litter box. Less plastic than using a huge garbage bag. They dont charge for plastic bags here. They are really thin.

Between ten and twenty cents Australian per plastic bag. They're meant to be reusable but if you have any weight in them, they tear or puncture and can't be used many times again or not at all.



I went shopping the other day and the handles and rim of the bag (bought then) tore out before I got outside. The old bags were designed to biodegrade quickly. These ones are just as shit house but will take a lot longer to mulch.



We don't use plastic fibre bags because they're not hygienic. They trap supermarket filth and keep reintroducing it into the home and food stream.

The reusable bags I've seen are not plastic at all.

It's not where the outside of the bag has been that is the bigger problem. It's what continues to be placed inside them without disinfecting between uses.



Meat packets can and do leak, especially when packed in cramped space with sharp plastic edges and cardboard packaging with right angles.



Produce like fruit and vegetables are touched often before they actually get purchased by the end user. People who often don't wash their hands after doing a poo or can't afford to not work when they're sick.



And the worst are non perishable shelf items which track in every nastyness residing in a warehouse, namely bird shit, rodent shit, cockroach shit, brake dust, legacy asbestos residue, mildew, rot, botulism, and human handling issues.



It's exacerbated by Lean handling practices and very short fulfilment times on automated orders.



Then there is the dirty belt at the checkout, if you're lucky enough to not have to scan and bag your own groceries. Generally manned by teenagers with robust immune systems and not a whole lot in the top paddock about dutifully following cleaning protocols. Not that it what matter though. They'd have to disinfect between each customer and it still wouldn't make an impact.



So this stupid shopping bag malarkey is just a cultish rant by our handlers.
