Australia does it RIGHT.



 

USA is many times richer than Australia and yet they have universal healthcare for its citizens.



Australia also maintains a triple A credit rating and a low debt to gfp ratio.



Why BT? why!?!



I don't think the American social or economic model works very well.



They spend more per capita than every nation in the world and still over 20% of their citizens remain uninsured

The USA is NOT "many times richer". It's economy is larger...because it's a more populous country, but that does not translate into quality of life, which encompasses many more factors than simple finance.

Australians do not regard monetary wealth as a measure of happiness or quality of life. It is a factor, but not a predominant one.



Australians are, as a result of their convict inspired culture, highly egalitarian and co-operative. Australia, despite the odd misstep, has a strongly unifying culture...perhaps stronger than most western cultures and many more tribalised cultures. If 2 Australians meet in a foreign country, they will stop and chat. Brits just walk past each other.



Our geography is also a factor; we are isolated from most of racial and cultural kin, and so we develop a stronger internal unity. As America well knows, Australia also values loyalty.



We're a funny nation...constructed from odd and seemingly incompatible cultural material which gives us strength, but with our own weird way of doing things in some respects. We're like our fauna...strange, unique, cute...yet deadly.

We all know our health care has it's faults and it's very expensive.

Canada has one of the worst health care systems in the OECD . And how can we call it universal health care when so many services are not insured like in other developed countries.



Our health care system is so expensive and consumes so much of provincial budgets we can expect the number of services provided to continue to be delisted(privatized).



Universal health care in Canada is on life support.
