I've always enjoyed dystopian fiction. Dystopian realities, not so much.



I don't watch TV, though, so I might stick to reading for the time being.

My fave dystopian film remains Terry Gilliams' Brazil.

May I recommend two novels by British writer John Brunner. "The Sheep Look Up" and "Stand On Zanzibar". Sadly he died too young, but these two novels have been somewhat "re-discovered" (despite winning Hugo awards) as the equal of many more renowned tales of the dysfunctional future.



It helps to realise he foresaw a few technical developments of the 21st century, as did Orwell, Huxley et al.

And, yep, I like Brunner. I've read the two you mention, along with The Shockwave Rider (cyberpunk before the advent of Cyberpunk).



The Sheep Look Up was an acquired taste. Brunner used narritive devices that were pretty innovative at the time but have since been over-used. A good read, in the end. Another win for the literature of ideas.
