The "record" business in the US has become very "corporate."  In the golden era it was driven by promoters and record execs known for their acute eyes and ears and sensibilities...the Erteguns and Grahams and Hammonds and people who lived in Muscle Shoals and Macon.  Now it's Sony and other bigs, who mostly make decisions based on Limiting Downside Risk. and formulaic cookie cutter production.  That sort of philosophy is antithetical to the spirit of rock.



So it's not that creative juices have dried up, it's just that no one will bother nurturing and developing them.
