Only for the worst offenders, apparently.

Maybe it's time to re-visit the whole issue of capital punishment.

Some of these assholes who kill and rape children and innocent women do not deserve to live.

Agree. When guilt is certain .. those who kill and rape children and innocent women (and some other similarly vile acts) they should not be allowed to live

There have been a few recent cases of a known killer being let out after doing time (and being nice in prison) and killed again.

Any followup deaths are on the system and society as a whole for letting it happen

Current example - so long as guilt is certain, why should the 2 who have killed a Canadian, an Australian and an American recently not be put to death .. rather than be a huge cost to society .. and likely kill again when finally let out?

Also terrorists.

Of any colour or persuasion.

Agree 100 .. the Danforth methodical killer in Toronto, the drivers who mowed down 100s (London,  Nice etc. etc.) ... the bloody cruel Paris attacks  .. San Bernando, Brussels, Orlando

I could go on. Harming kids is the worse of all

It's time the West realised it's socialist driven "blame the victim" justice principles have failed.

But is killing people the act of a civilised country?

There could be an argument that in extreme cases there is a case to be made for the state taking a life..

Personally, I'm uncomfortable with capital punishment in theory..

Taiwan and South Korea don't execute people anymore.

Bricktop

It's a difficult ethical and moral dilemma that has vexed society for centuries.

Iran hangs homosexuals. North Korea executes political heretics and "antisocial" malefactors. China executes dissidents. Saudi Arabia executes religious recusants. It becomes a slippery slope.

Personally I'd pull the lever on child murderers, terrorists and serial killers. Others, I'm not so sure.

I have known some people in my life that you would rather feed crocodiles by hand than be in the same room alone with them. Culling them would do society a huge solid.

I've only seen one story on this development.  Basically it said that 45 is ordering the federal government to resume capital punishment, which may not need to be taken seriously ATM.  But even if so, matters like rape are generally prosecuted by states which are not so easily persuaded.

I'd pull the lever or trigger on those types too.

My brother has had to confront the extremely violent in his career.

I was unaware there was a moratorium on capital punishment.

It most definitely causes more psychological stress to the victim.  Whats really sad is criminals know they can legally get away with it so they keep up with the behaviour.  They know they wont be severely punished.  Courts / judges keep giving them chance after chance...

Normal people will abide by the law in which we call them civilized, but are we? I abide by the law and court orders, the other party did not.  It caused me psychological damage.  In the end, id had enough...I went against the law and court orders.  I laid it all out in the court room, I defended myself and made it known I had limits and boundaries in my life, I gave the judge shit 2x and even swore...I shocked everyone....I am not that person...but thats what happens when you keep putting on the pressure twords the victim...but what happened here? You'd think id get in trouble for being extremely straight forward and being a bit of a bitch...nope, nothing happened to me that day...I made that judge look weak.  The only one who meant business in that room was me.  What did we learn here? How shady the courts are and how pathetic judges are.  Kiss my ass.  And I'll do it again!  What are they gonna do? Thats right...nothing!

Theres no fear there.  The courts are a joke.  Canada is a laughing stock of the world.  No wonder everyone wants to come here...there is literally much to take advamtage of.

You know eye an eye? Ot should be life for a life.  If a person commits such a heinous crime where rape and murder were committed, that should be their fate.  None pf this terrorizing people and esp children and getting a slap on the wrist or a 2-5 year prison sentance.  I could go on and on...
