The US views that as a Misdemeanor.  Canada views it differently though, classifying that particular charge as our version of a Felony.

Edward has no criminal record. He shot a guy in the face point blank. Splattered the guy's face all over the wall. Started to run but turned himself in. The judge gave him a conditional sentence. Meaning when all conditions were met it was wiped off his record. A few years probation, a few hundred community hours, a fine, go back to school, no firearms or new charges while on probation. After the conditions were met his record was cleared and his rifle returned to him.



While awaiting trial he was locked up in Surrey pretrial with gang members and men convicted of violent crimes and murder. He weighed only 129 lbs at the time but he had the cell at the far end on the top tier to himself. Right beside sevice door where drugs came in. He let them use his room to get the drugs ready. He kept his mouth shut and everyone liked him. He had some pretty huge and intimidating mother fuckers looking out for him.

Correct.  In the US, causing bodily injury while driving drunk can certainly elevate the charges to a Felony.



In Canada, it's a 'Felony' status just getting stopped at a roadblock while drunk.



This is why Canadians with an impaired charge can enter the US, but Americans cannot enter Canada with even a simple DUI on record, unless a waiver is obtained.

I can explain this further:  Let's say a US citizen was charged with Felony status for possessing Marijuana, which can happen in certain States.



In the US he is now a convicted Felon, but let's say he wants to enter Canada now...  Depending on the circumstances, he could enter without a waiver, since simple Marijuana possession charges in Canada are generally viewed as a Summary (misdemeanor equivalent) Offense...

Reminds me of a funny story...



I used to truck long haul into the US a few years back.  Did that for a couple of years, but eventually got sick of the lifestyle of never being home.



Anyhow, went to a birthday party the night before I was about to go on a run down to Southern Cali and beyond.  A buddy gave me a joint.  I don't really smoke weed at all, but thought maybe a nice thing to take along...  Have a nice toke before I crawl into the sleeper after I make it to the Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville, Oregon, where I liked to down a few pints of beer.



Have done this run many, many times.  Never a problem with US Customs.  I am not a drug runner.  Just a legit driver that liked to get his recreational buzz on after 12 hours of dodging idiots on the road.



This time they call me in for full inspection of truck.  And I have a joint.  Big problem could occur here now.  Commercial truck driver of Canadian origin entering US soil with an illegal substance.  This could cause problems on many levels for me.



I was drinking my coffee out of a stainless steel coffee mug at the time, and it had a plastic base or bottom that I knew unscrewed from the mug itself, since I had washed the thing numerous times.  I unscrewed the base and shoved the joint into it, then screwed it back on.  What else could I do?  I knew they were going to tear into the truck with dogs and whatnot, so I could not leave it in there.  I made a calculated risk to pack that joint in 'on person' in the bottom of my mug.



So now I'm in US Customs, dealing with the officers, taking sips from my coffee mug with a joint stuffed in the bottom of it two feet from their faces.  Understand that searching through a semi truck takes a long time, so I lost track as to how many times canine drug dogs were walking by me literally two feet away in the Customs area.  I am shocked that they didn't alert on a smell.



I didn't anticipate this search, so it took everything I had to remain calm and not draw any attention to anything.



After they reloaded my truck (yes, they have a dock and can completely unload a semi trailer), US Customs then gave me the OK to keep on truckin'...



I didn't ever attempt that again!

Dope is a horrible drug that only use is for mothballs.



Heaps of my friends died or were severely injured in car accidents while stoned.



Only really stupid people fight for that junk to be decimalized. I don't want my family on the road the same time some drugged up loser is driving.

I still don't understand how the drug dogs walking back and forth didn't pick up on that.  Maybe the air circulation in the office was just flowing in a favourable way...
