I called Blurt once many years ago..

He didn't answer, so I left a message..

I was so relieved he wasn't there, I would've been so nervous talking to a man.

Blurt was too scared to talk to you.

I was super disappointed, I'll admit.

You were nervous? Don't think of me as a man. Just think of me as Blurt.

I would've tried, but if you had answered I doubt I could've just thought of you as Blurt..

That's just the way I am.

And that was another hour that just flew by.

It was a hoot getting some context around the mythologies structuring the history of Flametown.

Of course I dont believe a single word you said.

Well, now that you're all worldly and not so innocent anymore, it should be easier next time.

I'm still open to a phone chat.

In this sub, people talk about Flametown history and past battles that were never resolved..

I have difficulty following it.

I don't think I'd could do..

I would say hello at the beginning, let you talk while I say ahuh, ahuh, and goodbye at the end..

It would be a one-sided discussion.

I'm not surprised.

Half the people on these forums are 'friends' behind the scenes...  It was something I was never fond of, going back to early DV days, since it eventually created problems due to favouristism with Mods.  Mimi and Oscar is a perfect example of that...

That said, I don't care who talks to who in private, but I always keep every single person at a distance for a reason...  These are anonymous forums, and I don't really want to know you any better than what I see on the board...  That is what these boards are for, IMHO...  Not to make friends, but to share posts.

It's not a dating site, and it's not FaceBook...  Unfortunately people try to turn them into that:  Dove and Martini, Gordy and Glasgogirl, Real Woman and Prickflop, just to name a few of many...  Often doesn't end well.

Nothing wrong with a chat for shits and giggles, Mel...

...no vows or friendship braces were exchanged...

I agree.

Mel,

Like Dinky said, nobody's talking eternal vows, here.

It's just a plain psychological truth that, when people have been conversing online with each other for five or ten or, in some cases, fifteen, years, they can come to respect or admire or, at the very least, be intrigued by, some of their conversation partners. When someone comes to appreciate someone else's wit or charm or smarts, the medium--the written medium, that is--can become limiting. Also, there comes a time when jocular spazzing over soiled underwear is no longer as entertaining as it may have once been, y'know?

Yes, I've had phone conversation with some forum reg'lars--Evs, Bricktop, RW, Dinky, Keebs--but that doesn't mean we turn up at each other's doorstep the very next day or that we're then constantly phoning each other afterward at all hours of the day.

No. Sometimes, you just want to meet in a virtual space where you feel you can drop the mask for a spell without necessarily compromising your ability to still enjoy playing the forum game. That game being the exchange of serious ideas mingled with (mostly) good-natured ribbing.

You're a loner, Mel, a one-man wolf pack. We get it. You have no desire to connect on a more authentic level with other human beings and, you know what? there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, though, and especially if you choose to participate in online discussion forums, this can have the adverse effect of "locking you into" a persona or a character that becomes stale or wears thin after a while (and this seems to be the case with most flamers I've only recently become familiar with in my online wanderings).

So, go ahead, be stale, be set in your ways, don't change, don't pine for more meaningful contact. The world will go on, I assure you. No one will think any less (or any more) of you.

How's the dishwasher coming along?

I've never talked to anybody from a forum ever. I have never asked anybody for their number and vice versa. Than again, I am a total bore, so why would anybody want to talk to me,
