There's not that many Injuns here, which is a good thing!

OK, to answer the question:

Where to host depends on what "freedom" you're trying to achieve.  The US is actually very good when it comes to free speech (First Amendment), provided you use a good host, since hosts can and do have their own rules also.  For instance, I use Namecheap to host for now, but also have a Host Gator account.  The reason this is, is because I bought domain name at Namecheap, there's a waiting period before I can transfer domain over to Host Gator.  I'll explain the difference:  Namecheap does not permit porn, and has a relatively restrictive TOS.  Actually, most US hosts don't permit porn, but Host Gator does.  Host Gator is also more permissive with content, supporting First Amendment ideals probably better than most other common hosts do.

So with the right host, the US is actually pretty decent.

Here's the downside to hosting in the US:  Copyright infringement.  You do NOT want to host in the US if you are publishing copyrighted material.  They'll shut you down pretty fast.  Might have better luck hosting in a non EU Euro nation such as Iceland or Eastern Europe if you want a bit more protection from that.  You'll more than likely pay more to host there though, and I honestly don't know if they permit the same level of free speech as the US does...

One benefit to some of these Euro servers, is that you can set them up anonymously, even paying by bitcoin.  And while I can hide my personal info from the public with US domain, the hosts do know who I am.

Quite frankly I'm not even sure if the perfect host exists...  One where you can do whatever you want, with complete anonymity.  If it does, it's probably some host in some third world country I haven't heard of, running an unreliable server with non-existent customer care.

Since an image hosting site would consume quite a bit of bandwidth, it would probably be cheapest to host in the US I would think?

One thing to bear in mind, that if you get a .com domain name, that is still considered the "property" of the USA, and even if you host offshore, they can still come get you.  So say you want to host in Iceland, if they suit your needs, you'd be best to get an Icelandic domain.

Sometimes it is the other way around.

I was able to post from the Kootenays.

You won't be able to now if Telus is your phones service provider.

That's one reason why I decided not to install a spam blocking add on, because IP's are dynamic all over the world.  They get shuffled around.

Yes, I have Telus.

You'll be spamblocked in the Koots, at least if you try to post as Guest.

I'll find out this summer.

Back to what Real Grimm was asking, and I'll continue with what I've learned from my post on the previous page, Coles Notes version this time...  I'm not sure if you've run a forum before, so I'll assume you haven't and talk like the tech noob that I am.

It's best to buy your domain name from the host you plan on using, since there's a 60 day waiting period to transfer a new domain name over to another host.  You see, you just lease the domain...  You don't actually own it.  (This means that when I transfer over to Host Gator, I'll most likely lose my current forum, since I'm not skilled enough to transfer that shit properly)...

If you have skill, a dedicated server is best, but I found out that I simply don't have the technical abilities to run on a dedicated server without additional "tools" to help me.  I tried and tried, and couldn't even upload the god damned forum software...   A shared server offers more tools for idiots like me to actually start a forum.  Cheaper too, but a shared server may become a liability if running high bandwidth shit, such as image hosting.
