So there is flood and various people and pets are being swept away,

who would you try and save first, your dog or a stranger's child?

I'll see what the others think before I give my two cents worth.

All dogs can swim.... all animals can swim.

A stranger's child. I don't have kids, but if I did, I would want a stranger to do the same.

I mean I would save a stranger's child first and if I had kids, I would hope a stranger would do the same for me in the same situation.

Exactly. That is the perfect answer. You'd be surprise how many strange people said they would save their dog instead of a child.

First of all, (me being a former breeder of Rhodesian Ridgebacks) I know dogs can swim and there is a better than 50% chance they could survive it. A child on the other hand could not.

I'm with cc, it is a no brainer. Save kids first and then worry about pets.
