I wonder how many Southerners are aware of the Confederacy's retreat to Brazil after the civil war.

QuoteAfter the Civil War, thousands of defeated Southerners came to Brazil to self-exile in a country that still practiced slavery. For decades, their descendants have thrown a massive party that now attracts thousands of people to the twin cities of Americana and Santa Bárbara d'Oeste to celebrate all things Dixie. The Confederate flag? Everywhere.

I don't know either, but I posted it here in hopes he would see it and have something to say about it.  I also wonder about Rancid, although I haven't seen him around much lately.

I had forgotten about it to be honest. Good article.

I usually think of the Nazis going to Argentina, before I think of the Confederates moving to Brazil. I guess because most my family is buried here.

Those of us that fought for Virginia, stayed in Virginia, that Im aware of. I wonder which Southern states fled most to Brazil. Article says anywhere between 8,000 - 20,000 moved there.
I've come here to chew bubble gum, and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Thought some of y'all might find this interesting reading. Its not the only things that happened in my area, but this was part of Hunter's Raid on our area during the Civil War. My neck of the woods.

(dont forget to click page 2 at the bottom of the article)

Also, at the beginning of the article, it mentions New Market, and with a link to that article. That took place just up the road too, where it also tells of the child cadets of VMI, standing up against the invading forces. A movie was made about them The Field of Lost Shoes, which was a good movie.

Did they stay? That isn't really that many even for 1865.

Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke, and Johnny Van Zant of Lynard Skynard on the Confederate flag or Dixie flag as they call it.

I've seen Skynard live a few times in a few countries. You see lots of Confederate flags in the crowd. Back in the 70's in the Ronnie Van Zant era, they had a huge Confederate flag behind them at every concert.

You really do like their music..

I didn't know they had other songs besides Sweet Home Alabama.

Blazor

Sweet Home got butchered by Kid Rock.

My favorite Skynard songs are Simple Man, and Freebird.
