In Canada, our 'assault weapons' may look like military style assault rifles, but they don't quite function as such:  They can only fire in a semi-automatic fashion (as opposed to full automatic, like a machine gun), and their magazine capacity is limited to a maximum of five rounds.

Semi-auto rifles pretty much make up the entire list, but oddly there are some exceptions, like the Russian SKS for instance...



Guns chambered in .50 BMG have also been prohibited.



A buy-back scheme is in the works, which will further devastate this nation economically...  That is assuming these firearms will be turned in.  You see, quite a few of these now prohibited firearms were classified as non-restricted before, meaning they didn't need to be registered.  What that means, is the government has no idea who owns what.



They are also working on a Grandfather clause, which doesn't surprise me, as people have been Grandfathered in the past also.  What that may mean is that you can still legally keep your now prohibited gun, but only in your house, and when you die it either gets destroyed or passed on to immediate family members.  Not sure yet though, how the Grandfather clause may work in this case yet.
