How are you finding home schooling?

It took me a couple weeks to work out all the websites, lesson plans, webchat meetings, and how to herd a cat...

...but this week we've got a lot more order and a basic game plan every day... meeting first thing in the morning with entire teacher and class where she herds the whole herd of cats to do their basic work while offering encouragements, followed by literacy and numeracy tasks to be uploaded to another website, and 3x a week, specialist classes in the afternoon (only 20-30 minutes long)...



My LO gets frustrated and mopey from time to time, but she's ticking the boxes now every day and gets more video game time on her tablet if we get off the schedule and learn something new... like how to add in traditional columns of 2-3-4 digit sums (in the last three days)...



...I'm hoping it sticks in another 2-3 weeks. It's the old way of doing maths but I think it's very important... when she's competent, I hope to introduce her to long division by hand...





How have you found home schooling for you and yours?

I think they just cancelled the rest of the school year here and passed all the kids.

That's a true shame...



...no doubt the kids are still learning valuable lessons but it might not tide them over to the next grade....

My daughter is in university, she resumed her studies online..



But, my son who is grade nine is finished for the year.

Mine is doing some stuff online a few  days a week.  Nothing extreme , her teacher got her a special online class for a part of her studies...you have to pay for this class, but she gets it for free.



I'm hearing they want kids to return to school end of May?  But I dont see a point?  School is pracitally over in 5 weeks.  



The teens are bored, but seem less stressed now that school hasn't been in session.  This really speaks volumes.  I'm allowing them to hang out again, go for walks, go to 711 and have sleep overs.

They don't stop being kids just because there is a pandemic. Even if they do catch it, they will be fine.

Thankfully, my children are now men and no longer need to be homeschooled. On the other hand, I would have enjoyed teaching History to them. I would not want to teach them Math though. ac_sothere
