A 26-year-old B.C. woman is dead after she was shot by police in New Brunswick early Thursday morning.

Family members in Tofino have identified the woman as Chantel Moore, an Indigenous woman and mother of a five-year-old girl who had just moved to New Brunswick from Port Alberni a few months ago.

Police in Edmundston, N.B., say at around 2:30 a.m., officers received a request to check on Moore's wellbeing at an apartment building on Canada Road in Edmundston.

Police say she was holding a knife and threatened the officers.

"At first, the officer went on scene, and all of a sudden the person just exited the apartment with a knife and was attacking the officer," Edmundston Police Force Insp. Steve Robinson told CBC News on Thursday.  "He had no choice but to defend himself."

Moore died at the apartment, according to police.

"I don't believe this. They were going there to check on her, not kill her," Grace Frank, Moore's grandmother, said in a Facebook post. "Self-defence is what (the police officer) says and she is not here to defend herself. I don't believe."

Will there be national protests and riots. I say no.

There might be some protests, but they won't be as large and as organized as in the USA..

Remember, this is an election year South of the border.

These protests are largely Democrat party politicking.

The lesson we can learn here:  Lunge at cops while holding a knife, and you might just get shot...

East coast RCMP officers are probably have an itchy triger finger over the events that have occurred over the last few years.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip said, "Inaction to dismantle the white supremacy foundational to policing has caused this to be one in a pattern rather than an exception, and I believe we need to tear down the systems that allow for the pattern to continue."

She lunged at a cop with a frickin knife for Christ sakes.

What the fuck are you telling me for. I don't give a fuck. Some messed up squaw from Tofino ended up in French NB, got shot for lunging at a cop with a knife and now the prog media is screaming racism. Rinse and repeat next time some messed up Indian does the same.

A poster asked why she was there.  I explained why she was there, a clear post which you questioned.  And I've already stated my opinion on the actions of the police in this thread.

You asked yourself that did you.

According to Fash, most likely yes.  According to me?  No.  I answered the question of another Guest.  I have better things to do than to pretend to talk to myself on a two-bit forum.
