QuoteProclaiming themselves "loud and proud," Alberta's opposition Wildrose party voted overwhelmingly on Saturday to affirm party policy denouncing intolerance against anyone, including gays.

Wildrose MLA Rob Anderson told delegates it's time to wipe away a deceitful smear that cost them dearly in last year's election.

"We believe, in this party, in the equality of all Albertans," Anderson told delegates prior to the vote.

"Let's pass this and send those PC fearmongers scurrying back under the rocks from where they came from!" he said to loud applause.

Seconds later, the 500 delegates in the room voted overwhelmingly to endorse the resolution.

This weekend, Wildrose delegates approved by wide margins two resolutions to take steps to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that lead to climate change and environmental damage through drought, rising water levels, melting glaciers and extreme weather.

On Friday, Smith told reporters she is on side that climate change is real and that the human race has a role to play in causing it.

She says the resolutions now give her a "mandate"' to fight climate change.

They moved to no longer push for getting rid of the Alberta Human Rights Commission and replace it with a division of the provincial court. Instead, delegates voted to work to reform the commission by making the process fairer to those facing complaints and to reduce "vexatious'' claims.

Just a whole lot of nothing. The WRA was not going to deny anyone civil rights despite what Redtory would have the public believe. All this means is that they will now throw any candidate under the bus that doesn't tow the party line. They are just following in the footsteps of the Reform Party.

As for believing in AGW, well again what has really changed? The WRA will NOT do anything that will harm the Alberta economy or make the cost of life more burdensome for Albertans like Ontario's failed green energy blunders. Basically they will play lip service to the myth that climate change is occurring at an alarming rate, it is caused by man, it can be stopped by stopping fossil fuel usage and more subsidies to big green energy scams.

Ontario has the most destructive elected provincial government in Canada. If any party outside Ontario even considers adopting disastrous Green Energy Act they should be decimated at the polls. Not only has it created energy poverty for consumers it threatens the province's economic competitiveness for the manufacturing and mining sectors. I hope Alberta's main opposition is not going following that path off of a cliff.

It's not lip service to some myth. The Wildrose Party is becoming more mainstream and believes in anthropogenic global warming. One day you will too!

Sorry Homy...i can;t be made to believe in something that is patently false.....here's why, although i know how facts confuse you....

4% of the earths atmosphere is made up of C02..that's 4%.......of which 90% occurs naturally..........meaning man contributes .004 % of atmospheric components...negligible and statistically insignificant.............

That is if you even believe that C02 is harmful to the planet...what any serious scientist will tell you is that it is necessary for life on earth....so i say bring it on

Romero

Those numbers may sound insignificant but they're not. There has been a 40% increase in atmospheric CO2 since the Industrial Revolution. From 280 ppm to 400 ppm. There hasn't been this much CO2 in the atmosphere for millions of years, when the Earth was indeed warmer and the sea levels were higher.

That 400 ppm sounds ridiculously small. 400 parts out of one million? It's so little! But it's not. The small percentage of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere keep the world 33 C° warmer than what it would be without them. When greenhouse gases go up and down, the temperature goes up and down.

Everything is beneficial and necessary for life - when it's at the right amount and balance. Global warming is killing life. There's 40% more CO2 in the atmosphere than there should be. We would never argue that 40% more Oxygen in the atmosphere would be good.

We're just starting to see the effects of climate change. This is only the beginning.

relax homy.....the only thing global warming (ÉÉ) may be killing is the bank accounts of super rich beach front property owners on marthas vineyard...everybody else could use a little warming...

Nobody really believes so-called climate change is a big deal or that man can really do anything about especially the greedy slimballs like Hansen, Gore and Suzuki or promote the non-existent emergency and you don't believe in it either. It is the biggest single wealth reducing scam against working Westerners I have ever seen in my life. My gov't, big labour, big corporations, big NGO's and and billionaires are all feeding off the scam while we pay their tab.

As for WRA, they have always been a mainstream party despite what the PC fearmongering machine claims.

Here's a very recent quote from Danielle Smith, Ms. Smith said the science didn't matter but that market access for Alberta's crude and trade with other concerned countries and jurisdictions does.

This is just business for a pragmatic party like the Wildrose. If getting access to new markets for our products means paying lip service to this faux emergency so be it.

This is from their website, Greenhouse gases have become the lightning rod of the climate change debate, which has led to a host of politically motivated CO2 policies that have done little in the way of actual reduction. Also, We would implement a natural gas strategy focused on shifting energy output away from high-carbon fuels like coal onto natural gas and other cleaner burning alternatives.

It's what I like to call a Triple Win. It would support our local industry, it would reduce emissions, and with natural gas prices so low, it would save Albertans a little bit of money too.
The type of common sense approach they favoured in the last election.
