Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin slammed the idea of defunding the police Monday, an idea some Democrats have run with after the death of George Floyd.



"You can't defund the police, that's stupid, it's crazy and anyone who talks about that is nuts," Sen. Joe Manchin told Politico. "You have to have the police."



Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon, who now leads the left-wing group Demand Justice, tweeted out his support for defunding the police Wednesday.

Black Alberta cabinet minister banned from speaking at BLM rally in Edmonton



Kaycee Madu, who is originally from Nigeria, said he had been invite to speak at the rally which drew 15,000 peaceful protest, but was told at the last minute he wasn't welcome.

I am not an authority on the matter but I'll cite a few. Whatever is not working should be improved. Each cop should wear a body camera. When apprehending a suspect, cops should check each other. If a cop is being brutal, his partners should manage the situation so it does not escalate to death. There should be a goal that injury and death should not be an outcome for someone they apprehend. Cops should take training about racial stuff and they should probably get a yearly training. It should be illegal to do a choke hold or pressing a knee on a neck.



How awful that George Floyd got killed not by a weapon but by a cop's knee. So awful.

I thought something like 175 blacks died at the hands of police in the US last year? But, I guess it is possible only ten were unarmed.

I would think domestic abuse to be a major cause, but underlying elements as described above would be a big part of  domestic abuse



It's very dangerous responding to domestic abuse calls .. the officer has no idea what is waiting behind the door, and can lead to need for deadly force

That number seems low. We do not get many confrontations like the shootout from the movie Heat here in Winnipeg. Almost all lethal confrontations involve alcohol/drugs combined with mental distress.
