QuoteGreen Madness: Climate Policies To Add 41% To Electricity Prices By 2030

Date: 13/10/13

Jim Pickard, Financial Times

Britain's "energy and climate change" policies – including subsidies for wind farms and nuclear power stations – will add 41 per cent to the price of electricity in the UK by 2030 according to forecasts by the energy department.

Green measures including billions of pounds of subsidy for low-carbon generation will lift the price of electricity from £149 to £210 per MwH, the government's own officials have predicted.

QuoteMet Office Data Shows Global Warming Standstill As IPCC Confirms Global Temperature Has Stopped Rising

Date: 29/09/13

The global warming 'pause' has now lasted for almost 17 years and shows no sign of ending – despite the unexplained failure of climate scientists' computer models to predict it.

QuoteIPCC Fails To Come Clean Over Global Temperature Standstill

Date: 27/09/13

The Global Warming Policy Foundation is criticising the IPCC for its deliberate attempt to obscure the reality of an ongoing temperature standstill and its failure to come clean about the failure of its models.

The IPCC has decided to discount the global warming standstill since 1997 as irrelevant and has deleted from its final document its original acknowledgement (in its 7 June draft) that climate models have failed to 'reproduce the observed reduction in surface warming trend over the last 10-15 years.'

Not only has the IPCC failed to predict the ongoing temperature standstill, its climate models actually predicted accelerated warming due to the increase of CO2 emissions.

QuoteApril 2013 - March 2013 was the second coldest March in the UK record since 1910, and was associated with a negative phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation. A number of potential drivers may predispose the climate system to a state which accounts for these conditions.

This March has been the coldest since 1962 in the UK in the national record dating back to 1910 (Figure 1). Provisional figures indicate that the UK mean temperature was 2.2 °C, which is 3.3 °C below the long term 1981-2010 average. Figure 2 also illustrate that the whole of the UK was colder than normal.

QuoteNASA Announces New Record Growth Of Antarctic Sea Ice Extent

Researchers have measured a new record for sea-ice extent in the Antarctic.

New measurements have now confirmed that. As the U.S. space agency NASA announced, the sea ice in the Antarctic has extended over an area of 19.47 million square meters at the end of September. That is the highest since measurements began in 1979.

QuoteReality Check: Sea level rise not accelerating

Date: 08/06/11

A paper published yesterday in the Journal of Geophysical Research – Oceans, confirms other studies of tide gauge records which show that there has been no statistically significant acceleration in sea level rise over the past 100+ years, in contrast to statements of the IPCC and Al Gore. Sea levels have been rising naturally since the end of the last major ice age 20,000 years ago, and the rate of rise began to decelerate about 8,000 years ago

We all know there is lots of information on the internet that can support any position on climate change. I take a more moderate position about it. I accept the world has warmed even if the amount varies widely depending on your source. I accept that man has played a part in it too. The amount that man contributed to it is open for debate. Does this mean I accept that we can dramatically reverse this trend by slashing fossil fuel usage by unrealistic figures? Not very likely. Do I think massive carbon reduction trreaties will have much affect on C02 emissions? No way, the West cheats and the developing world will cheat even more.

What I don't accept are exaggerated claims based on cherry picked data by both extremes on this issue. I will not fall for more misleading predictions with the intent to scare me into submission on this subject. I also won't fall for the other side using just as misleading 'science' telling us that an ice age is at hand. Let's have some balance here people. Continued conservation is good for the planet and does not cost a fortune like some of the Ontario Liberal parties disastrous green shemes.

QuoteGreenhouse gases are making the world's oceans hot, sour and breathless, and the way those changes work together is creating a grimmer outlook for global waters, according to a new report Wednesday from 540 international scientists.

The world's oceans are getting more acidic at an unprecedented rate, faster than at any time in the past 300 million years, the report said.

Scientists already had calculated how the oceans had become 26 percent more acidic since the 1880s because of the increased carbon in the water. They also previously had measured how the world's oceans had warmed because of carbon dioxide from the burning of coal, oil and gas.

The 26-page report released by the United Nations and several scientific research organizations brings together the latest ocean science on climate change, stemming from a major conference of ocean scientists last year.

We know that the oceans have been getting warmer, it's what temperature readings have shown. We know that sea levels have risen, it's what satellite readings and tidal gauges have shown.

And we know that the oceans have been absorbing more CO2 and becoming more acidic.

The ocean's are friggin' huge. So if CO2 can affect the oceans...

A new paper finds global mean sea levels rose at only 1 mm/year, equivalent to less than 4 inches per century, over the 203 year period from 1807-2010. The finding is remarkably similar to the sea level rise of 1.1-1.3 mm/yr found by the NOAA 2005-2012 Sea Level Budget, the only sea level budget which reconciles both satellite [altimeters & GRACE] & ARGO float data.

It's pretty funny how climate change deniers try to skew things. In this case they're actually acknowledging the rise in sea levels while pretending it's not happening at the same time. Since when is a rise not an acceleration?

Sea levels have risen less than 4 inches per century? That means they have indeed risen. Nearly 8 inches in the last 200 years according to the article. That's a lot.

Remarkably similar to the sea level rise found by NOAA? Let's see what NOAA has to say:

QuoteThere is strong evidence that global sea level is now rising at an increased rate and will continue to rise during this century.

While studies show that sea levels changed little from AD 0 until 1900, sea levels began to climb in the 20th century.

The two major causes of global sea-level rise are thermal expansion caused by the warming of the oceans (since water expands as it warms) and the loss of land-based ice (such as glaciers and polar ice caps) due to increased melting.

Records and research show that sea level has been steadily rising at a rate of 1 to 2.5 millimeters (0.04 to 0.1 inches) per year since 1900.

This rate may be increasing. Since 1992, new methods of satellite altimetry (the measurement of elevation or altitude) indicate a rate of rise of 3 millimeters (0.12 inches) per year.

This is a significantly larger rate than the sea-level rise averaged over the last several thousand years.

http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/sealevel.html">//http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/sealevel.html

61% of tide gauges demonstrate no change in sea level, 4% show a decrease and "a minority" of 35% show a rise.

Um, how exactly is 35% a minority compared to 4%? I'm pretty sure 4% would be the minority. According to those numbers there has been a rise in sea levels.

Four inches per century and no acceleration of that hardly seems like an emergency to me. Seems well within historic norms. It's a long way off from the 1/4 to 1 metre rise IPCC models predicted based on various scenarios. It's also way off the 6 m rise in Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth.

The IPCC says sea-level increases up to 7 m above today's levels have happened naturally in the past climate and would only be likely to happen again after several millennia. In the next 100 years, according to calculations based on figures in the IPCC's 2007 report, the two ice sheets of West Antarctica or Greenland between them will add a little over 6 cm (2.5 inches) to sea level, not 6 m. Gore has accordingly exaggerated the official sea-level estimate by approaching 10,000 per cent.
