I have an Android cell phone, which is basically Google.  I also have no cell coverage where I live, and instead route my cell through my router via WiFi.

Phones don't like to work this way (if my phone dies, I actually have to drive to an area with tower coverage to 'restart' its ability to work via router and WiFi).

One of the latest updates has now caused this:  My phone actually turned off the Wifi on its own, and also turned on location broadcasting on its own.  I'll assume it was trying to pin up to a tower, but it cannot, since I don't have cell service here.

In the last two days, this thing is now relentless in it wanting to know my location.  It's auto-switching multiple settings on its own that it shouldn't be!  There is no tower here, and it's set on WiFi calling when so, but it's going crazy trying to find a tower to get my location is all I can figure...

The more app you have, the more you get spied on. I only have a few apps downloaded. Google maps is the only one I use regularly.

I have all unnecessary aps turned off, and have not installed any additional aps.  My phone is just for phoning and basic internet browsing...

All the more reason to own an iPhone and internet with telus.

Possibly, although Telus does not service this area with internet, yet...

If I remember correctly it will work with any wifi hotspot. Native seamless switching between voip and tower depending on signal quality. Also you can use Apple's face time audio only as a voip from any hotspot world wide at no charge.  I'm dead now so my recall is a little rusty.
