I have fond feelings for Douglas. My grandfather, CCF Mayor of Brantford ON was very close to Tommy.



Paul Martin Sr. a Lib used to stop on his many trips Ottawa to Windsor  to talk health care with  my grandfather and used as a secret go-between to Douglas as Douglas would not speak directly with Martin .. but he would through my grandfather (wotta guy he was!!!)



Both played major roles in formulating plans and Martin getting health care through parliament .. I recall the 2 of them (Martin & granddad) smoking their pipes in gramp's living room while discussing health care and bringing Tommy's views into it
