May I say from very close-up personal experience that if it's an actual mental illness it would not be upbringing whether good or bad.



Mental illnesses themselves have nothing to do with upbringing ... they just are "there" , like programmed from birth and in fact often run in family genes

You never stop being a parent. Even if Monkey Pants is an adult, they are duty bound to try and get him the psychological help he needs. It is morally and ethically wrong to just push the responsibility off onto society. In many cases this leads to tragic consequences.

I have to assume at Edweird's age that his parents are elderly. They may require daily care themselves.

Edweird didn't get to his state of mental derangement over night. It has been years, maybe decades in the making.
