Founded in 1921, CFR takes no institutional positions on matters of policy. Our goal is to start a conversation in this country about the need for Americans to better understand the world.

Americans do need to better understand the world, they are largely ignorant of it. But the same might be accurately said about anywhere in the world.

I would posit it is also incumbent upon Americans to understand Americans. In particular, an understanding of the American accustomed to giving the plebs their marching orders; that would be of particular use. Any alphabet soup organization interested in starting a conversation on that topic has my interest.

Old Jim Crow Joe's approval rating continues to drop.

Biden's approval rating remains upside down in the new poll, with just 37% approving of how he is handling his role as president, compared to 52% who disapprove. The survey was conducted Oct. 15-18 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.

A Quinnipiac poll conducted earlier this month had found that just 38% approved of how the president was handling his job, while 53% disapproved.

The 2022 elections are the GOP's to lose.

You're forgetting fortification. Additionally you are forgetting 2016 when Billary Klithorn was odds on favourite in the polls to carry the day in a landslide... until they had to admit she wasn't.

Forget the polls. There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics. All three are in play and all three will be exercised to grant you the outcome you deserve. Best you fight like hell for your preferred outcome, others will be doing likewise, especially those who believe their interests trump yours.

A lot of polling in Canada and the USA is biased and therefore unreliable.

Correct, the individual polls can only really give you the idea of trajectory over time, not necessarily an accurate overview of a person's popularity at any given point Sampling bias, be it intentional (ie: push polls) or otherwise forbid the latter and the aggregate of many polls can only do so much to rein some of that oversight in.

The trajectory of a person's popularity though... that's nearly always reliably reflected (unless switching sampling methodologies mid-stream) because the bias of a particular sampling method remains more or less constant. And Bidet's popularity looks set to crater utterly. That much I think we can all agree on.

The risk lies in people becoming complacent because of this knowledge. We do not wish for more of the same, but should we rest on our laurels, more of the same is what we deserve. We should in fact expect it. With that in mind, it's not enough to yell "let's go brandon" in ever increasing fervour; he is but a demented steward who is the window dressing for a larger, systemic problem which can field all the cronies it likes at the equation; democrats and republicans alike, or in Canada's case, liberals, pcs and ndps.

Choose not by party, but by candidate. If the candidate is too far out of your wheelhouse, look at fielding candidates that represent your interests better. Shit, if an utter assclown like Rob Ford can run Toronto, what's stopping anyone here? Too much like hard work? Better things to do? Like complaining when you don't get quite the result you had in mind?  I'll remind everyone that Trump was not without his flaws, but he did show us all that with little political experience it was perfectly possible to identify a problem or three and in spite of a hostile oligarchy and questionable choices in advisors, still manage to nudge the most influential superpower on the face of this earth in a direction that served our ends more admirably than people who had been at it for half a century.

Of course he did have the benefit of a keen business sense. Anyone who wants to argue otherwise would have rocks in their heads to ignore the blatantly obvious: namely, that he invariably looked after his own skin first. Part and parcel of that in the case of his presidency at least, were the people who could get him legitimately re-elected.

I'll take a slice of that honesty over push polls and ballot chicanery any day. But I know it has to be fought for relentlessly... and now you do too.

I do believe Americans are not happy with the utter incompetence of the Biden administration.

The U.S. economy is suffering from a labor shortage, posing a difficult puzzle for economists and policymakers to solve.

The pandemic has deeply disrupted the labor market, with lockdowns causing millions to leave the workforce last year. While many businesses have reopened their doors, bringing back former employees, or hiring new workers, has never been so challenging. And the increasing imposition of vaccine mandates is making the problem worse.

Meanwhile, Americans are quitting their current jobs at a record pace. The Labor Department data showed that quits increased to 4.3 million in August, the highest on records dating back to December 2000.

Workers at restaurants and stores, especially, are quitting in droves. Resignations are also highest in the tech and health care industries, due to increased workloads and burnout.

A Gallup survey discovered that 48 percent of the working population in the United States is actively looking for a new job or watching for opportunities.

The ongoing labor shortage is "the single most significant threat to America's economic recovery," according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation's biggest business lobbying group.

"Congress should drop the multitrillion-dollar tax and spend proposals that would further undermine the economy and focus on getting Americans back to work and helping employers fill open jobs," the business group said in an Oct. 12 statement.

I'm inclined to believe dissenters of the current administration are in the majority, it's been my experience though that people tend to become complacent (if not forgetful) over time, thinking they don't have to try too hard. One year is a long time in politics, never mind three.

Best advice to the yanks here - kneecap the dems in the mid-terms, but keep an eagle's eye on what you are letting through the door in their wake. A slew of inflammatory tweets and any "embarrassment" you might feel about them is a small price to pay against the possibility of becoming a third rate banana republic.
