The owners of that restaurant issued an apology on Sunday night.

"We made a mistake and apologize for the unfortunate incident on Friday when we asked members of the San Francisco Police Department to leave our restaurant," the owners of the Hilda and Jesse restaurant wrote on Instagram.

"We are grateful to all members of the force who work hard to keep us safe, especially during these challenging times," the post continued. "We hope this will be a teachable moment for us as we repair and continue to build bridges with the SFPD. These are stressful times, and we handled this badly."

They got a lot of negative reviews after this went viral.

The owners say their eatery is a safe space for queer and BIPOC people. Are there no gays or people of colour on the SFPD.

Seems a space designed & known for specific / specialized minorities. Seems gays or people of colour (and how about bad white people?) are not solicited

I suspect that they received a communication from members of that Department, reminding them who keeps them safe and who may be somewhat busy if they are asked to attend the restaurant to assist in a disturbance.

Cops seldom respond in adequate time to address violence, and often initiate the violence themselves.

The diner shouldn't have apologised for setting ground rules about a dress code.

No shoes, no shirt, no service.

No pig uniforms, no weapons.

Perhaps, but the negative reviews would play a part too. Negative reviews are restaurant killers.
