WTF is Hanukkah?

Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime "festival of lights," celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.

"The Festival of Lights" otherwise known as "The Miracle of the Oil" has it's roots in a Judean Civil War from around 170BC. Hellenized (Greek Infuenced) Jews fought tradionslists for control of how and what Gods should be worshipped... The Helenistic kingdom of Syria interceded on behalf of the Hellenized Jewish faction and in doing so, defiled the temple of Jerusalem by sacrificing pigs at the alter. The Traditional Jews eventually defeated the Greek Jews and expelled them to Syria. They then ordered the temple to be cleansed. Unfortunately all the holy lamp oil had been violated and services could not be held in the temple. Olive oil was used for lamp oil and it took approx 8 days to press and process the olives into lamp oil...Then a single container of pure oil was found and supposedly it burned for an impossible 8 days and nights while the new lamp oil was processed and sanctified...



The story of the oil is considered pretty much bullshit by historians of all faiths nowadays and it was even called into question as far back as the middle ages.... It makes a nice story though...



Now the question is, does this bit of useless knowledge regarding Hanukkah that is stored in my head make me a God Damn Joooooo?..... ac_umm ... I'll never tell...
