It's criminal how they treat Russia.

The West, the US in particular thought they were going to turn Russia into a eunich lapdog like they did Japan. Good for Moscow for telling them they aren't interested.

Last go-round most countries flew around it while Malaysia decided to fly over it .. They lost 100s of people

That might sound like a simple option.  



However, Russia will need to consider the long term impacts of demonstrating that it is unreliable as a commerical partner.



Russia needs the $$$$$ as much as Germany needs the gas.



Russia's problem is that the West has options. Russia does not.



Russia has always been represented in Western media and by Western politicians as some kind of invincible bogey man. Despite its massive military resources, it is still outgunned by NATO and the US both quantatively and qualatively. The West needs a Russian boogeyman to justify its massive military spending.



Russia can throw punches, but it cannot deal a knockout blow.
