Where Is That Beautiful Global Warming We Were Promised?

I was promised global warming and frankly, I'm more than a little annoyed that it hasn't arrived yet.



I don't know about where you live, but here in the Ottawa Valley it has been a long and brutal winter that showed up early and just won't leave.



This winter introduced us to terms like Polar Vortex. You remember that perfect winter storm that froze the eastern seaboard of the U.S., had Haligonians huddled by the fire and saw Saskatchewan with temperatures colder than the North Pole.



Winnipeg was actually colder than Mars back in January.



One of the most popular things to share on Facebook that I've seen lately are pictures of the Great Lakes frozen over at levels not seen in decades with more than 90% ice coverage last week.



Then this week, as the kids in my house are settling in for March Break, another snow storm. Yep, had the snow blower out twice to clear my driveway. In Toronto the snow brought parts of the city, including TTC streetcars, to a standstill. More snow is on the way.



After the snow, came the cold. I woke up Thursday to a temperature of -27C with the wind chill.



So I don't know about you, but I'm ready for global warming.



But it won't be coming, because despite the billions spent, the conferences held, the fear mongering put out by media and government, global warming is not happening.



I know the experts have changed the terminology from global warming to climate change -- they did this because people noticed it wasn't getting any hotter out.



But here's the thing: They still blame it all on you and I driving our cars, heating our homes and going on vacation and they still warn us the world is getting warmer and we must do something to stop it.



Yes, I know my critics will say you can't dismiss global warming based on a few isolated weather events, even though they do it after every hot spell, every storm, every drought. But when we do that for anecdotal evidence, they scream that it is about trends, long-term trends.



OK, let's look at those trends.



The Met Office, Britain's official office for dealing with this issue, has admitted that warming stopped, in any statistically significant way, in 1997.



When I bring that up, the folks who believe in the religion of man-made global warming will tell you that it's false, never happened.



Well, even the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change admits it stopped. They held a summit last fall, reported on by the global warming cheerleaders at the BBC no less. The reason for the summit was to try to figure out why warming has stopped.



Even the Toronto Red Star published a story last month from their environment reporter Raveena Aulakh on why the warming pause is happening. They blame the wind. That would be nature, which is what some of us blamed the previous warming on.



It is shocking when even the Red Star admits there are problems with man-made global warming.



Don't expect the hype to stop though, no amount of evidence to the contrary will stop the warmist from their goal. What is the goal? A couple of years ago Ottmar Edenhofer, a German economist and co-chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said "climate policy is redistributing the world's wealth."

It was 14C here the other day.



Winters are definitely different than they use to be.  When I was a kid, it was normal to see days of -30C or colder and foot upon foot of snow.  Now, we rarely see -30C or below and have a quarter of the snow we used to.  Is it global warming?  *shrug*  It definitely ain't what it used to be (I'm not complaining either).

The number of bears along the western shore of Hudson Bay, believed to be among the most threatened bear subpopulations, stands at 1,013 and could be even higher, according to the results of an aerial survey released Wednesday by the Government of Nunavut. That's 66 per cent higher than estimates by other researchers who forecasted the numbers would fall to as low as 610.

The study shows that "the bear population is not in crisis as people believed," said Drikus Gissing, Nunavut's director of wildlife management. "There is no doom and gloom."
