Trying to learn the Blender program and honestly having a hell of a time. I keep resorting to my Photoshop knowledge and can't seem to break away from those habits:(.  I guess I'll get there eventually with practice.  I'm feeling a little disheartened tbh :/

I feel ya, its like when I tried GIMP after Photoshop in a way lol. Or going from Quark to InDesign. Or going from GoLive to Dreamweaver

I'm watching CHiPs again. I really got to stop watching this show, seeing how nice L.A. was back in the 70's compared to now is disheartening to say the least.

It's certainly a whole new ball game.

I can only say what helped me shift my mindset:



For my first project or two I didn't have a plan or any real intent.

I started with one of the base meshes and just played with stuff; at first with program-provided modifiers and things.



Btw be careful what you use the 'Skin' modifier on... I'm still not sure what it does because every time I tried to use it the program took so long to respond I gave up and went to the ProgramManager to close it manually. I'm sure I was probably trying to use it improperly but... LoL



Anyway, I just messed around... trying this setting and that to see what did what.



If I got bored with that I'd switch to Edit Mode (Shift) then then experiment with the options there.

Selecting Vertices, Edges, or Faces then tinkering with modifications.



Which reminds me:

A cheat-sheet of useful/important keyboard shortcuts (like 'E' to extrude, Ctrl+Alt+0(numpad) to set the camera to the current view, etc.) will make life much, much easier.



I will offer this advice though:

After you make a deformation do Ctrl+A and 'Apply' it.

Some other actions and materials won't work correctly unless all deformations have been applied.



Also: Right-click 'Shade Smooth' is very handy. I lurve 'Shade Smooth'.
