I thought it wasnt an uncommon practice among wealthy men in Southern Europe and Latin America.

This is going on in most if not all countries. It happens here in Canada.

A Melbourne couple found guilty of secretly enslaving a woman in their suburban home for close to a decade have been jailed for their "crime against humanity".



Kandasamy and Kumuthini Kannan on Wednesday appeared in Victoria's Supreme Court where they were convicted for subjugating the woman, which ultimately left her in hospital weighing just 40 kilograms.



Kumuthini Kannan, 53, was ordered to spend eight years behind bars.



Her husband, Kandasamy Kannan, 57, was ordered to serve six years.



It is the first time a case solely about slavery by domestic servitude has been aired in an Australian court and, prosecutors say, the longest period of enslavement the nation has ever seen.



But the court heard the couple still did not accept that they forced the Indian grandmother into servitude, and continued to "strenuously" profess their innocence.



The couple's legal team has already indicated that they may be preparing an appeal.



During a sentencing which was watched by almost 200 people, and which stretched to almost three hours, Justice John Champion took aim at the couple.



"Slavery is regarded as a crime against humanity," he said.



"Your offending occurred in the daily presence and with the obvious knowledge and comprehension of your children.



"You set them a deplorable example of how parents should act towards another human being.



"Her life was controlled largely in the privacy of your own home and care was taken by you to keep her true status from others in your community ... so that your dirty secret was maintained.



"This court publicly condemns you both for your disgraceful conduct."



Justice Champion branded the couple as "almost compulsive liars".



"The number and brazen quality of the lies has been nothing short of astonishing," he said.



"I'm quite convinced that you both believe you have done nothing wrong.



"Neither of you have shown remorse or contrition."

If you mean Asian gals, they usually marry well educated professional White guys if they marry outside their race. SE Asian women like Filipinas and Thais come from poor countries and they aint too picky.

Modern white women can be a headache though.... I say this as a guy who has a great gal and a great daughter both with hearts of gold... but we were picky and we just clicked....so through no fault of our own, whiteness was preserved. Lulz



I once viewed old men with younger Asian wives as sad.... then I started noticing young guys in their twenties and thirties with Asian brides roughly their same ages... and really happy/into each other.... so I asked myself why....



White women these days are such high maintenance and high drama, that young guys don't want any of it. Guys in general don't want the heartache and Asian women don't either.... so they gel rather nicely.



Not always though.... there are some dodgy operators on both sides, but relationships between them tend to stand the test of time.

However, SE Asian birds and those around the islands can be beautiful mates but also can be ruthless.



There's a guy at work named <redacted> "Mario"... he is a phiilipino.... and you wouldn't know it but he's an Ex Merchant Marine of 40 years, a maintenance guru that can work on any mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or software issue.... and his ex wife (from his culture) also lives in Australia (despite him living everywhere through the year) and she has petitioned the courts to have him barred from Australia.... because she hates his guts.



Nicest bloke around.... goes home in the off season where he owns numerous bed and breakfasts and niche market hotels, to see his children....





...I don't just say he's a nice bloke for his manor..... this is a guy last Friday that saw me walking to work from behind across a bridge and stopped to wait for 5 minutes to save me a further 10 minute walk to work. My vehicle was in the shop for the day and this region doesn't do complimentary cars...

Most of the Asians that marry Western or Japanese men are from poor countries in South East Asia as Herman pointed out..



If a Western or Japanese man marries a lady from the richer countries of East Asia, it's  usually a match of well educated equals and they usually meet while working or travelling in wealthy East Asian countries.
