Sobs rang out in a small-town Kentucky courtroom Tuesday as footage was played of a local sheriff shooting dead a judge after finding his daughter's number on the judge's phone.

Just hours before the shooting the sheriff and judge, who were longtime friends, shared an outside table at the popular Streetside Grill & Bar on Main Street for lunch, only a few hundred yards from the courthouse.

The pair were lunchtime regulars together at the sports bar and on that fateful Thursday ordered their usual – both having the $13.99 wings with salad.

'Everything seemed fine between them. There was no clue that anything was wrong at all,' one of the staff attending them that day said.

The court heard that surveillance video also showed Stines looking at Mullins' phone several times and then using his phone and Mullins' phone to try and call his daughter before the shooting.

Upon discovering his daughter's number in the phone, he jumped to his feet within 'seconds', the court heard. He then opened fire.

Kamala Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, is being accused of slapping an ex-girlfriend following a drunken argument in Cannes, France, in 2012, three of the alleged victim's friends told the Daily Mail Wednesday.

The second gentleman — who has been married to Harris since 2014 — allegedly struck his then-girlfriend while in a valet line at Cannes Film Festival due to a dispute about her "flirting" with another man.

A comprehensive review found that patients who take aspirin have a relatively lower risk of developing various types of cancer.

In November 2023, researchers from Cardiff University in Wales published a comprehensive review in the British Journal of Cancer (BJC) outlining aspirin's potential to reduce cancer mortality, prevent metastatic cancer spread, and minimize vascular complications. Canadian musician Jacob Hoggard was found not guilty Friday of sexually assaulting a young woman in northeastern Ontario eight years ago, the culmination of a roughly two-week trial that saw both the singer and his accuser paint starkly different pictures of what happened.

The former Hedley frontman, who had pleaded not guilty to sexual assault in the case, nonetheless remains behind bars as he serves a five-year sentence for a different sexual assault conviction — a case jurors did not hear about during his trial.

A Christian cake baker has finally defeated legal harassment from the LGBTQ+ movement after fighting in court for more than a decade.

Jack Phillips was sued in 2012 for refusing to create a cake for a same-sex couple at his Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado and then later sued for refusing to create a cake celebrating a transgender transition. Attorneys for the Alliance Defending Freedom have defended Phillips for 12 years.

On Tuesday the Colorado Supreme Court dismissed the second lawsuit after saying that the attorney who filed the lawsuit did not follow the proper process to do so. Phillips won the first lawsuit in 2018 after a court found that officials acted with hostility against his faith.

Neither of the legal victories established Phillips' constitutional right to free speech as a basis for dismissal.

"Enough is enough. Jack has been dragged through courts for over a decade. It's time to leave him alone," said Jake Warner, the senior counsel for ADF.

"Free speech is for everyone," he added. "In this case, an attorney demanded that Jack create a custom cake that would celebrate and symbolize a transition from male to female. Because that cake admittedly expresses a message, and because Jack cannot express that message for anyone, the government cannot punish Jack for declining to express it. The First Amendment protects that decision."

Deryck Whibley has claimed he was "groomed" by his former manager, who "pressured" him into a sexual relationship.

The Sum 41 frontman was 16 when he met Greig Nori, who was 34, and while they shared a "special connection" on a creative level, he has alleged he was sexually and verbally abused by the Treble Charger singer over the years.

A rare rain in the Sahara Desert

A rare deluge of rainfall left blue lagoons of water amid the palm trees and sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, nourishing some of its most drought-stricken regions with more water than many had seen in decades.

Southeastern Morocco's desert is among the most arid places in the world and rarely experiences rain in late summer.

The Moroccan government said two days of rainfall in September had exceeded yearly averages in several areas that get an average of less than 250 millimetres annually, including Tata, one of the areas hit hardest. In Tagounite, a village about 450 kilometres south of the capital Rabat, more than 100mm was recorded in a 24-hour period.

The storms left striking images of bountiful water gushing through the Saharan sands amid castles and desert flora.

"It's been 30 to 50 years since we've had this much rain in such a short space of time," said Houssine Youabeb of Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology.
