Quote from: DKG on August 16, 2024, 09:42:30 PMIt takes four years to become journeyman certified. But apprentices get paid instead of paying tuition.

Yeah you're right, I remember that now. I took a 7 month machinist training course and they talked to us about getting our journeyman cards. I never did as I started work right after graduation and was already making good money. Should have looked into it though.

My son started an indentured apprenticeship electrician program this year Oliver..

He has to complete eight weeks of in classroom work each year for four years before he can advance to the next year and finally to receive his red seal interprovincial journeyman electrician qualification.

Good choice! He'll be set for life when he completes it. Could even start his own business.

X says it is closing operations in Brazil due to judge's content orders

Media platform X said on Saturday it would close its operations in Brazil "effective immediately" due to what it called "censorship orders" by Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes.

X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, claims Moraes secretly threatened one of the company's legal representatives in the South American country with arrest if it did not comply with legal orders to take down some content from its platform.

The social media giant published pictures of a document allegedly signed by Moraes which says a daily fine of 20,000 reais ($3,653) and an arrest decree would be imposed against X representative Rachel Nova Conceicao if the platform did not fully comply to Moraes' orders.

"To protect the safety of our staff, we have made the decision to close our operation in Brazil, effective immediately," X said.

Before Elon Musk, Twitter would have complied. They did when bullied by the Biden administration.

Disney no longer trying to dismiss wrongful death lawsuit

Disney's lawyers are no longer asking a Florida court to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The lawsuit, filed by the victim's husband earlier this year, accuses Disney of negligence in the death of Kanokporn Tangsuan, alleging that she suffered a fatal allergic reaction to the food she consumed at a Disney Springs restaurant on Oct. 5, 2023.

Months later, however, Disney had asked the court to dismiss Piccolo's lawsuit, claiming that he had agreed to settle any lawsuits against Disney out of court — all because he had signed up for a one-month trial of Disney+ in 2019 and acknowledged that he had reviewed the fine print.

This week, however, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro said Disney's lawyers would withdraw from their argument.

The Israeli military said Tuesday that it recovered the bodies of six hostages taken in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack that started the war in Gaza, as U.S. and Arab mediators tried to advance an agreement to halt the fighting and release scores of other militant-held captives.

The military said its forces recovered the bodies in an overnight operation in southern Gaza, without saying when or how the six died. A forum for hostage families said they were kidnapped alive

I'd be surprised if any of them are still alive.  Jihadis are animals.

They recovered bodies. They are dead. Islamists are animals.

A former NFL player is accused of urinating on an elderly woman during a flight from Boston to Dublin, Ireland, as well as hitting another elderly passenger.

A police report said 40-year-old Gosder Cherilus appeared intoxicated when he arrived at Logan Airport on Saturday evening for the Delta Airlines flight.

Cherilus allegedly argued with another passenger over seating arrangements, and about an hour into the flight, he allegedly walked over to an elderly female passenger and "emptied his entire bladder for 20 seconds" on her.

He then got "unruly and aggressive" when flight attendants tried to subdue him, and he struck another elderly man with his hand on the way back to his seat, according to the report. Passengers and crew feared for their safety, according to court documents — indeed, Cherilus stands six feet, six inches tall and weighs 280 pounds.

The incident forced the plane to turn around and head back to Logan Airport.

Police escorted him off the plane and arrested him for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Cherilus pleaded not guilty at his Monday arraignment but declined to answer reporters' questions as he walked from the Boston courthouse; he was released on $2,500 bail.

I read Quebec is banning temporary foreign workers. An exception will be made for nurses, and jobs paying more than $57,000.

A California man is refusing to take down his pro-Trump flag and decorations after his homeowners' association ordered him to take them down because they violate the HOA rules.

Paul Wood Bonilla believes the HOA of his residence in Lodi is targeting him because the group's officials object to the political message.

What, again? Didn't they just have a rail strike a year ago or something?

Canada rail shutdown threatens US supply chains

Crucial supply chains are under threat across North America after a rail labour dispute in Canada led to shutdown of freight traffic on the country's two largest railways.

Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), locked out nearly 9,300 workers after midnight on Thursday (04:00 GMT), after failing to clinch a late deal with the Teamsters union.

Hours after the strike began, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the federal government would soon announce steps to resolve the work stoppage.

"We are not taking this lightly," he told reporters in Sherbrooke, Quebec. "We are on this."

Mr Trudeau offered no further insight into the government's plan to resolve the shutdown.

Both of them at the same time. Trudeau has to start acting like a leader and force them back to work or arbitration.
