Young men at highest risk of schizophrenia linked with cannabis use disorder

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/young-men-highest-risk-schizophrenia-linked-cannabis-use-disorder">https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-re ... e-disorder">https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/young-men-highest-risk-schizophrenia-linked-cannabis-use-disorder

NIH study highlights the need to proactively screen for, prevent, and treat cannabis use disorder especially among young people.

Young men with cannabis (marijuana) use disorder have an increased risk of developing schizophrenia, according to a study led by researchers at the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health. The study, published in Psychological Medicine(link is external), analyzed detailed health records data spanning 5 decades and representing more than 6 million people in Denmark to estimate the fraction of schizophrenia cases that could be attributed to cannabis use disorder on the population level.

Researchers found strong evidence of an association between cannabis use disorder and schizophrenia among men and women, though the association was much stronger among young men. Using statistical models, the study authors estimated that as many as 30% of cases of schizophrenia among men aged 21-30 might have been prevented by averting cannabis use disorder.

George Santos, a Republican congressman from New York, has surrendered to federal agents and is in custody facing federal charges.

Most of the charges relate to Santos' recently improved financial situation. For years, Santos struggled to pay his rent and had been threatened with eviction on multiple occasions, the AP reported. However, Santos claimed on financial disclosure forms that Devolder Organization, a luxury-item brokering firm established in Florida two years ago, has since paid him $750,000 a year. He also claimed to have received a total of $6 million in dividends from Devolder as well, though prosecutors said the firm never gave him any of that money.

Santos has also been accused of establishing Redstone Strategies, another Florida company, in 2021 to raise money for his political campaign but then using the money for personal expenses such as designer clothes and debt payments. In October 2022, just a month before his election, he wired tens of thousands of dollars from that company's account to a personal account and to accounts belonging to some of his associates, the indictment claimed. The month before, he may have set up yet another LLC and twice funneled $25,000 in campaign contributions from the company's account to a personal account.

Additionally, there are allegations that Santos illicitly collected $24,000 in unemployment benefits during the government shutdown for COVID. The indictment claimed that Santos applied for and received the benefits in 2020, even as he remained employed with an investment firm that has since been investigated as a Ponzi scheme.

He was charged on Tuesday evening by prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York, and he was taken into federal custody on Wednesday. He currently faces 13 counts, including wire fraud, money laundering, theft, and lying to Congress.

Tucker Carlson posted a video to Twitter on Tuesday in which he announced plans to launch a "new version" of his show on the social media platform — the video, which amassed 22.9 million views within 24 hours, marked Carlson's second recent video to blow up on the social media platform.

HSBC, one of the world's largest banks, downgraded the stock of Anheuser-Busch InBev this week amid controversy over Bud Light's partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Bank analysts downgraded the stock to "hold" status, which means investors should neither sell nor purchase the stock, CNBC reported.

Elon Musk announced on Thursday that he had found someone to take over as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Twitter.

Musk will continue to own the social media company and will play a technical role in the platform, but someone else will lead the day-to-day management of the company.

"Excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & [Chief Technology Officer], overseeing product, software & [system operators]," Musk posted on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

Musk provided no additional details about the future of the social media platform.

The leadership shake-up comes about seven months after Musk took over ownership of the platform in October of last year.

The move was not altogether unexpected. Musk had posted in December that he would resign as CEO of the platform as soon as he could find a suitable replacement.

Rumour has it Linda Yaccarino will be the new Twitter CEO.

Yaccarino is chairman of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal (NBCU), where she has worked for more than a decade and manages a global team of 2,000 people who have generated more than $100 billion in ad sales, according to her company profile.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Yaccarino is also involved with the World Economic Forum, WEF, where she chairs the organization's taskforce on the future of work and sits on the media, entertainment and culture industry governors steering committee.

The executive's connection to a pandemic-era vaccination campaign has also bothered proponents of Twitter's more liberal content moderation policies, many of whom fear Yaccarino could bring back the stricter bars for misinformation that they struggled to clear before Musk did away with them.

Between 2010 and 2020, electricity bills rose 1.6 percent across the US, but twenty five percent in California. The reason for the difference are goofy green mandates.

I'd make an example out of Vallow. I'd burn her fukin ass at the stake. Its not torture either. God ordained burning as a form of capital punishment so its A-OK no matter what any retarded human says.

Hence the exodus from California to Texas and Florida.

An employee at a Louisiana Arby's made a horrific discovery earlier this week: the unresponsive body of a female coworker in the store's walk-in freezer.

At around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday evening, police were called to an Arby's restaurant on Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia, Louisiana, about 20 miles south of Lafayette. When they arrived, they found that a store employee had found a female coworker unresponsive in the walk-in freezer. The woman was later pronounced deceased.
