A liberal just like YOU, josephine. Too bad he didnt come to my front door. I'd have shot him in half with the Benelli M4. Our DA would have charged me with murder is the only downside.

Yea, I'm still in Illinois which means if I shoot anyone in self defense, I'm going to jail. I've got 2 kids and parents in Florida BTW.

You must be tempted to sell everything and move to the Sunshine State.

Illinois is a state I would not move to even with a big raise.

My plan is to retire in about eight years. I want to live at least six months out of every year in Florida.

...can a person live outside of Canada more than 6 months of the year without penalty to their benefits, DKG?

I know someone very well off who went sailing around the world, but he decided he'd better come back in order to still be eligible for healthcare and other benefits.

I think Canadians get cut off from public pensions and healthcare if they stay away too long don't they?

Wrong about pensions. You can collect CPP and OAS abroad. You can't collect GIS abroad.

My son in law and daughter live 2 doors down from some Cucknadians and they've been living in Florida for more than 2 years now. They dont seem to GAF.

This is true. There are tens of thousands of Canadians retired abroad and collecting CPP and OAS. With OAS you had to have lived in Canada for forty years to get the full six hundred plus per month.

As for heath care:

If you plan to be outside Canada for more than seven months in any 12-month period you can keep your OHIP coverage for up to two years if you:

have a valid health card

make Ontario your primary home

will be in Ontario for at least 153 days a year in each of the two years immediately before you leave the country
