The agency needs to be reformed instead of abolished.  Just redefine the investigative powers and set up new rules of engagement.  I'd rather keep them around to deal with people that shouldn't have firearms.

State Police have that power already.

The ATF's only real job with firearms these days is making up new regulations that take something legal yesterday and make it illegal overnight. I've seen many recorded interviews with these assholes where they try to entrap people, intimidate them, and through the use of outright lies, try to get people to let them enter their homes without a search warrant.

The Firearms part could be eliminated completely and the duties could be distributed through other agencies. Regulation of alcohol and tobacco could remain. The agency needs to be cut by 2/3rd's of its force because only alcohol really needs heavily regulated. Tobacco has had a major decline in usage.
