Quote from: Oerdin on September 10, 2025, 10:38:56 PMDemocrats have so restricted oil drilling in the state that major pipelines to refineries might be shutting down as production is insufficient to maintain flow in the pipelines.  This will lead to several oil refineries shutting down due to lack of crude.  This is despite the state having the third largest proven reserves in the country.  Democrats did this deliberately.

That is Canada. My former country has the world's 3rd largest proven reserves of crude oil. Carney and the Liberals have done everything to make sure Canadians do not benefit by developing it.

Bill to recognize new state holiday heads to Gov. Newsom

California is one step closer to adding another official holiday to its calendar.

The California Legislature has passed AB 268, introduced by Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San José), which would designate Diwali as an official state holiday.

Diwali, also known as the "Festival of Lights," is celebrated annually by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains worldwide. Celebrants light small oil lamps, place them around the home, and pray for health, knowledge, and peace.

The word "Diwali" is a shortened version of the Sanskrit term "Deepavali," which means "a row of lamps."

"Designating Diwali as an official state holiday not only recognizes the festival's religious and historical importance but will better enable those throughout the Indian diaspora and beyond to take part in one of the world's oldest religious holidays," Assemblymember Kalra said in a statement. "With AB 268, California also cultivates a greater understanding and appreciation for the diverse cultures and faith traditions that enrich our state."

The bill would become law if Gov. Gavin Newsom signs it. He has until Oct. 12 to make a decision.
