It's the kind of trouble studios get into when their focus is on cashing in with a reboot instead of producing an original piece of work. The project gets mired in focus groups and spreadsheet analysis and the bean counters have veto power over the creative team, resulting in a movie made by accountants and lawyers instead of artists.

That was no doubt part of the problem... they kept trying to adjust on the fly to what the focus groups indicated the zeitgeist wanted instead of just making a good fucking movie and trusting the audience to appreciate it.

It's why I watch classic movies mostly. 1930's to late 60's (can't stand most film noir,the Bowen Brothers, Dick Van Dyke, most Roddy McDowell stuff, and many spaghetti westerns/war movies) very few 70's flicks (that decade was a cringey soundtracked washout) and selectively from the 80's to current although since 2015ish, there's a shit tonne of movies being put out that are DOA or one has to hold their nose for portions of them because the woke is thick as cow crap in a holding pen.

Oh yeah, and many of the historical movies and series dealing with 99.99% Caucasian history but filled to the brim with minorities and with no plausible backstop.
