Who could blame you, we are "awesome".  ac_biggrin

God I hate using that word.  ac_toofunny

What, heavyset? How about full-figured or rubenesque? Anyway, it's funny how that name made me think of Kathleen Turner.

No, I hate the word "awesome". It's one of the most over-used and misused words in the the average persons vocab.

"Heavyset", "full-figured", "rubenesque" or even, OMG...."fat" is fine with me.

You are probably thinking of her now because when she was younger she wasn't all that heavy. In fact personally I think she kinda hit the wall of late. She used to be very attractive years ago but now she is kind of a wreck.  ac_unsure

I have seen old and new(er) pics of her. I thought she was pretty when she was young even though she had a deeper voice than most men. However, one pic I saw of her looked like she gained about 45 kgs. I realize she's probably 60+ by now, but the physical transformation was  not a graceful one. I am sure this is why she hasn't worked in gawd knows how long.

Yeah, she has that sort of Carrie Fisher syndrome going on, only without the headcase issues.

When she was young she was really cute but now she looks like that crazy old aunt that a lot of families have who lives in some dilapidated house with 30 cats.  ac_toofunny

That makes two of us. I did NOT know that about her. To be honest, I assumed she abused booze and drugs like most celebutards.

Yeah, rheumatoid arthritis is a nasty disease. I have a few family members that have it and it can be completely debilitating.

That is a shame for Turner and for your relatives.

I have a great aunt and a cousin that have or had it. My great aunt has been passed for several years now but she ended up wheelchair bound in the final 5 or so years of her life.  My cousin who is two years younger than me, looks like she is 20 years older. The pain and joint damage the disease causes just sucks the life out of you. And if you don't tolerate the meds well, they take there toll as well. ac_crying

Quote from: "Shen Li"Thanks RW, this was fucking funny as well as true. Religious fundamentalism is a form of mental illness.

Religious fundamentalism could soon be treated as mental illness

Kathleen Taylor, a neurologist at Oxford University, said that recent developments suggest that we will soon be able to treat religious fundamentalism and other forms of ideological beliefs potentially harmful to society as a form of mental illness.

She made the assertion during a talk at the Hay Literary Festival in Wales on Wednesday. She said that radicalizing ideologies may soon be viewed not as being of personal choice or free will but as a category of mental disorder. She said new developments in neuroscience could make it possible to consider extremists as people with mental illness rather than criminals.

She told The Times of London: "One of the surprises may be to see people with certain beliefs as people who can be treated. Someone who has for example become radicalized to a cult ideology -- we might stop seeing that as a personal choice that they have chosen as a result of pure free will and may start treating it as some kind of mental disturbance."

Taylor admits that the scope of what could end up being labelled "fundamentalist" is expansive. She continued: "I am not just talking about the obvious candidates like radical Islam or some of the more extreme cults. I am talking about things like the belief that it is OK to beat your children. These beliefs are very harmful but are not normally categorized as mental illness. In many ways that could be a very positive thing because there are no doubt beliefs in our society that do a heck of a lot of damage, that really do a lot of harm."

Socialist ideologues like this so-called college professor don't believe in a God; just ask Romero.

In her point of view, God doesn't exist right out of the gate. Her attitude would be "proof be damned", we don't need no stinking proof.

If she follows the typical mold of the typical prog/socialist then she firmly believes that she is smarter and more enlightened than the cave dwellers believing in in God. In her view, God is a superstition or a myth much like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. The typical elitist prog believes that people who believe in God are one step away from being little more than ignorant savages, frightened of the dark. They may deny it publicly that they feel that way because after all, you have to keep up the "we're in the tolerant club" charade. But in private they are generally very disdainful of anyone that doesn't conform to their ideology and that goes for any one that they consider a slave to religious dogma.

It doesn't even have to be in private. They are not shy about letting their intolerance of differences shine through. I have always said that white leftists are the most odious bigots I have ever encountered.
