I can totally understand a religious context -- ie a pastor refusing, due to conscience, to officiate a wedding between same sex couples. That is his right and is in fact, consistent with Biblical mandates. But aren't church and state supposed to be separate? Did not Jesus himself say "pay onto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar and that which belongs to GOd to GOd"?

What good is going to come from other than to allow health insurance providers off the hook for same sex couples and allow for higher tax rates on same sex couples?

Separation of church and state is forbidding the state from advocating for Calickism, Calvanism, Lutheranism, etc. Jefferson, the gaytheists escape hatch, even advocated for free worship of the muhzies, UNTIL he read a koran and was like "WTF WAS WRONG WITH ME?"
