we are aware of storm activity [Cyclone Pat for eg.] but that said its surmountable if one takes the right precautions in housing, infrastructure, facilities in general. You see houses on poles which is the most practicle solution. If and when I buy it will be inland. Raratonga I think or Aikitaki.

Also cost of living, enregy and food for eg. will be expensive but one can budget for that and be aware that it all has to come from shipping, mostly New Zealand.

There is some talk of offshore developement in Oil and Gas [not yet in the media] and rare earth minerals at the sea bottom.

Hi, Doc. We only stopped in Rarotonga airport before heading to New Zealand. We did not choose to spend time there.

We've been to nearby French Polynesia and would love to go back. It's a place worth seeing definitely.

You've been to lots of exotic places Azhya.

I hadn't thought much about Polynesia, but thanks to you and Securious I am now.

@realAzhyaAryola

Before children my husband and I traveled much, to Europe and to these parts. After children, our vacations have been focused between here and Asia. Then we did not travel at all when I was not working. Now that I'm working again, we plan to travel again some time. We do always take road trips around the US, however.

I can understand that Azhya, it's difficult to travel with young children.

The Cook Islanders are proud fans of their British Heritage and the Royal Family. Also everyone proudly speaks English. No French there!

Too bad

My husband corrected me. We stopped in Rarotonga from New Zealand. We stopped there for fuel before going to French Polynesia. My husband can remember all these things because he was in the travel and hotel business for most of his life. I, on the other hand, have poor memory.  :(

From the looks of it, Cook Islands and French Polynesia have nearly similar characteristics except they had different colonizers. :(

I remember well when they showed us how they prepare food underground. When I have time later, I'll show you what it is.

I like the Cook's not just because of their weather [a given] but also the proud British connection too. there is also the convenience of using New Zealand Dollars, being a protectorate of NZ, and of course the clincher..English language is widespread and used scholarly. The post is aimed at living there not just as a destination I  trust the last poster has noted. The Cook's are far more stable than most other Island "destinations" for a  domicile. There is one other major reason too, one can have their CPP & OAS mailed there in Canadian Dollars to a bank of your choice, I checked this out last week. Its one of a few countries that it will do that.

Packaged Deals... ARE, crass commercialism

one of the good points to the Cook's are they aren't that well known and dont have a high tourist traffic problem..Ah! PEACE and QUIET!..although this is a growing phenom. Unlike the ones youve mentioned.
