I have colleagues who have worked in Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Kuwait. it can get 50 fucking degrees there in the summer.

Quote"The idea of being shocked about bribery and racketeering at FIFA is like being shocked about jumping into a pool and finding yourself wet," said Dave Zirin, sports editor at The Nation magazine.

QuoteRussia To Use Prison Labour For 2018 FIFA World Cup

Russia would use slave labour ready from its prison for driving down the costs of FIFA World Cup, 2018. But this move has sent alarm bells across the world with questions being raised about potential human rights violations. Many have compared the move to the imposition of the Gulag system across the country.

QuoteQatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Is A Disaster: 1,200 Workers Dead

A report from the International Trade Union Confederation says 1,200 migrant workers from India and Nepal have died in Qatar since the country was awarded the 2022 World Cup.

The ITUC estimates that 4,000 migrant workers will die by the time the first game is played in 2022.

The report is in line with recent death numbers from the embassies of the two countries.

I really want to enjoy the World Cups, especially the Women's starting here in Canada next week with the final being played in Vancouver.

But how can I? FIFA is worse than the mafia.

The Football Association and International Olympic Committee are both more greedy and corrupt than medieval royalty.

Where shall the next World Cups and Olympics be? North Korea? Burma? Zimbabwe? Highest bidder and most human rights abuses win. They are destroying sports.

Is the IOC any better though? I'll bet anyone that did an investigation into the IOC would find a culture of bribery and kickbacks.

Bricktop

Any world sport organisation is corrupt. The massive amounts involved, and the greed of third world representatives makes the whole process dissolute.

Exactly the same for cricket.

And the United Nations.

That's what I'm saying! Both have become a bunch of money hungry fraudsters. They've become the opposite of what international sport is supposed to be.

I voted against the Vancouver Olympics in our referendum because I knew it was a money grab. That was tough. I really love the Olympics and you can imagine how much I wanted to see Canada win gold in my home town.

I decided not to be a party pooper and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Pride and party time every single day and night!

Because thankfully it wasn't such a bad deal at all. I believe it ended up being great, even though all the promises went to the least who deserved them.

Nothing compared to the ridiculousness of Russia's Olympic $50 billion and FIFA's corruption and slave labour.

I'm going to hypocritically watch future World Cups and Olympics, but it's going to leave a really bad taste in my mouth. I have spoken out about it. I'm torn by the ruining of what's supposed to be the best of sport. It's like cheering for the Vancouver Canucks winning a Stanley Cup held in Nazi Germany. Disgusting and tainted. Why isn't it enough just to celebrate the game without having to coddle corruption and oppressive regimes?

Oh my Romero, this is an eye opener.

Romero

Yeah, an eye opener full of pus. I was looking forward to the Women's World Cup but now I can only think about slave labourers being abused and dying. The final is in Vancouver and I was going to buy tickets. I'm not going to and I'm going to write FIFA. It's not much but it's something.

They aren't using slave labour in Vancouver. Go to the game. Have a good time. ac_dance  ac_dance

Romero

That's true! I do want to support women's soccer. They certainly don't deserve to lose any support.

I dunno. I still feel like I'll be complicit in all the corruption and abuse. I'm going to feel dirty just for watching the games on tv. I don't want to be all talk no action.

WARNING WARNING... SEXISM AHEAD.

Womens sports sucks.

Female boxing or MMA... Not good.

Soccer is boring when you watch it on TV.

There are lots of nasty human rights abuses all around the globe. We cannot expect the rest of the world to adopt our liberalism, but we can keep it out though.
