The Flame Game

Was there a suggestion once to keep the flaming in one subforum or was that a thing of the past? Some of us don't enjoy flaming and don't want to be flamed upon. Why? What for? We did not come into this world to be flamed upon by people who don't even know us. For what? For one's enjoyment and fun? Something is very wrong with that picture. Find other flamers to flame with but leave some of us alone who don't want it. In other words, you stay in your lane, I stay in mine, something like that. ac_biggrin

There's a fine line between flame warring and nailing someone on a difference of perspective. I hope this new direction doesn't outlaw strong dissent.



In life, sometimes people say they are happy to stay in their own lanes but in reality they're drunk behind the wheel. Take for instance the religious and Pride March debates happening lately. Plenty of drunk on god types were swerving all over other peoples real life lanes and avenues.

It has come to our attention that in thread fighting is turning many posters off of our board.  Seeing as how we don't have many posters to begin with, we need to be receptive to these complaints.



We are asking for your help in maintaining the civility we've nurtured here on the Cashew and ask that you keep any name calling, flaming, and sharp tongued teasing to this thread and this thread only.  Many of you are here because you are intelligent and have something of value to say.  Some of you offer a fresh new perspective that we encourage.  We would hate to see your keen minds get lost amoung bickering and harsh words.

Dissent on an issue is different than ad hom.  I get wrapped up in the debate that I can get insulting.

It's often in perspective though. Pointing out that Dove is a former stripper and drug addict might seem like an Ad Hom to some, but in the context of a debate about freedom of choice, religion, and freedom of religion to limit other peoples choices, it's dead on relevant.



I too can be wrapped up in debate and I don't mind insult either. I suppose I'll have to remember that most BC residents are in North America and aren't very hardened in that social aspect.

It's not something one turns on or off. It's a cultural way of being. Australians have it. North Americans don't generally. They're very delicate creatures and can't deal with aggression like Australians can.

I'm from metro detroit. You believe we are "sensitive"?   I spent years on flame venues, trolling and flaming. There isn't anything new that could possibly be said. I've already been flamed for being a stripper, an addict, a Christain. I had a mock "bio" made on my honor.  It's not an issue of thin skin for me. It's an issue of negative and repetitive interactions that are just not stimulating to me anymore. I dont feel good about myself after flaming someone. I'd rather have a genuine and productive exchange. I'm past throwing poop all over the place.  Believe or not, some people simply are just over it.   And to DD, who even though I've put on ignore I still keep seeing posts from due to her being quoted, you keep bringing up how no one interfered with my choice to use drugs, or work in strip clubs. You are right. No one, in my family at least, did. Ever think that perhaps that's part of the problem?  I really wish at some point someone WOULD have interfered.  Think about that...really think about it.
