American psychedelic band years ahead of their time, with one huge international hit, "7 + 7". Arthur Lee's songs were complex and clever, when pop songs were about teen boys hitting on teen girls.

Yes, I hear you say "But everyone knows them...they're a huge band". Well, not initially. They were a blues band led by Peter Green. Cult following.



When Green left, their bassist and keyboard player, John and Christine McVie kept the name, hooked up with Stevie and Lindsay and became an Abba-like pop band.

The Yardbirds.



They were, at one point, regarded as the equal of, if not more influential than the Rolling Stones. Until their singer, Keith Relf died suddenly, and the music almost died with him. However, given that their guitarists featured at various times Jeff Beck (in this clip), Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page (when Relf died), Page decided to keep the group going as The New Yardbirds, bringing in John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant. They decided that The New Yardbirds was a daft name and changed it to "Led Zeppelin". Much better.  :001_rolleyes:

An American early 60's band, also with a cult following. Best known for a song that was covered by one James Marshall Hendrix, to the extent that the world thought it was HIS song. It wasn't. The Leaves eventually became The Turtles and started groovin...
