Quote from: "the shark hunter"... was STP a grunge band?  i always thought of them as more alternative than grunge.  Fash mentioned that they had a glam element which was true, but i don't associate glam with grunge ...

The Stone Temple Pilots were a difficult band to categorize the shark hunter.

... well maybe not in a general sense.  would you agree that they played rock music?

... i'm not sure i hear the BUCKCHERRY comparison except in that they both are rock bands.  STP was much more nuanced and sensitive than BUCKCHERRY in my mind.  i think perhaps there might have been some DAVID BOWIE influence in them though which ties into the glam element you mentioned ...

Someone mentioned that Buckcherry was a glam band and that Stone Temple Pilots were not strictly grunge; they had some grunge influence.

... it's funny but now you've got me thinking about who was grunge and who wasn't.  in my mind there were really only two big ones: NIRVANA and PEARL JAM.  i never really considered SOUNDGARDEN to be grunge (they were too good musically) but many people might disagree. but then again, they were from seattle, the home of grunge, so maybe they were ...

I read that Soundgarden was regarded at the time as the evolution of heavy metal, but still lumped in with the Seattle bands..

You would have a lot in common with my husband..

He likes the music from that era.

So is your wardrobe still made mostly of flannel?

Frankly I think Buck Cherry sucks.

I don't see the correlation between them and STP either. To me STP is closer to bands like "Pearl Jam", "Soundgarden", "Candlebox" and the "Foo fighters". Even the "Goo Goo Dolls" are closer to STP than Buck Cherry.

AIC does predate grunge somewhat but not by much. You are also correct in that they are also not a grunge band. They are "alternative metal" or even "sludge metal" at times with elements of blues and punk thrown in.

Noooo....I was more baggy cords, and thrift store bowling shirts. Until I went 'first wave' goth lol. I agree on the STP comparisons. Buck Cherry sucks, also. We can't leave that out. Weiland was an artist, Buck Cherry dude is a coke fueled rapist.

I love me some AIC. My husband does Nutshell and Heaven beside you on his acoustic.
