Sadly, what could have easily prevented the murder of Aboriginal and White women in some of the more remote areas of Canada is a decent public transportation service. Many women, white and aboriginal were murdered along the Highway of Tears near Prince George. A number of them were hitchhiking because there is no viable and affordable bus service in that part of British Columbia and they were just trying to get to work or from Point A to B.Quote from: "J0E"
So one step toward homicide prevention would be a regular bus service in remote and dangerous highways such as these.
Women shouldn't die just because they were trying to fulfill their daily obligations and complete simple chores or tasks. In part, this is the BC Government's fault for failing to adequately fund public transportation. That alone could save a lot of lives, aboriginal or other.
How many women have been killed by strangers while in transit?
Most women of any ethnicity are killed by someone they know.

...well a shuttle along the Highway of Tears would be a big help in that region of BC, Fashionista.
If they could take a regular service instead of hitchhiking along it, could save a lot of lives there.
So far, the BC provincial government has balked at implementing this service.
They say they can't afford to spare a few million for it, but then turn around and increase funding for rich spoiled brats and their private schools which are getting over $300 million in subsidies courtesy of the taxpayer, which is increasing every year. Imagine that - 99% of the taxpayers subsidizing 1% of the population.
I'm somewhat amazed that so many in Alberta assailed former conservative premier Jim Prentice for being some rich elitist, when I thought he actually did a lot for middle income Albertans. The premier we have in BC does little to help the poor, the middle class, cuts services to protect working women along places like the Highway of Tears. If you want to live in a province where the government is creating and reinforcing a two tiered class system, then BC is your place.
